Bombay High Court granted interim bail to Businessman, Raj Kundra for his alleged involvement in the pornographic case registered by the Mumbai Police in 2020. Details inside!
The Bombay High Court announced a massive decision in the alleged pornographic case, as one of the alleged prime accused, Raj Kundra, has been granted bail by the court on an interim basis. While the decision has surprised many, it is a big relief for the friends and family of Raj and his wife, Shilpa Shetty Kundra.
For the unversed, on July 23, 2021, the crime branch had raided Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her husband, Raj Kundra's bungalow in Juhu to investigate his alleged involvement in the pornography case. The Mumbai Police arrested the businessman on July 19, 2021, and he was also taken to his home during the raid. During the search, police had also recorded Shilpa Shetty's statement.

On August 18, 2021, the Bombay High Court announced pleasing news for Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty Kundra's family. After a single-judge bench of Justice S K Shinde granted interim protection from arrest for a period of 7 days to Raj Kundra after hearing the anticipatory bail plea filed by his lawyer in the 2020 FIR. In his concluding statement, Justice Shinde told the Mumbai Police to respond to Raj's bail plea on August 25, 2021. He said, "Interim protection granted till then (August 25)." Earlier this month, the session court had rejected Raj's bail plea, after which he had decided to knock the doors of the Bombay High Court.
On August 10, 2021, the session court had extended Raj Kundra's jail term and had postponed his bail hearing to August 20, 2021. Raj's 14-day judicial custody had ended on August 10, 2021, but after the crime branch had listed out 19 reasons to oppose his bail, the court had extended the hearing. According to the reports of Mid-Day, the crime branch had raised concerns if Raj is released on bail, he might 'tamper with the evidence', 'influence the witnesses' or might even flee the country since he is a British citizen.

As per the report of ETimes, Raj Kundra, in his plea, had claimed that his name had not been figured in the charge sheet filed by the police in April, and his arrest was based on conjectures and guesses. However, the police had accused Raj of not cooperating with the case. Investigating officer, Kiran Bidve had revealed that Raj had destroyed a lot of evidence prior to his arrest and, if granted bail, will remove more evidence.
In February 2021, a woman had busted the racket publishing pornographic content with Raj Kundra's alleged involvement in it. A woman had approached Mumbai Police with the allegations on Raj for luring men and women with the pretext of giving them work in web series and forcing them to act in adult movies.

Raj Kundra was booked under sections 420 (cheating), 34 (common intention), 292 and 293 (related to obscene and indecent advertisements and displays).
