Bridal Skin Care Mistakes To Avoid

By Team BollywoodShaadis Last Updated: Jul 2, 2011 | 00:00:00 IST

It’s the day of the wedding and you wake up to find acne marks, red splotchy skin or dry, dull skin. Not a pretty sight to wake up to, isn’t it? Especially not when it’s your wedding day. You can avoid this by following a skin care regime and by knowing the do’s and don’ts of skin care.

Skin Care Routine
Avoid starting a brand new skin care routine a week before your wedding. You don’t know how your skin will react to it and there won’t be enough time for damage control. You might turn out to be allergic to a product or you may notice cleansing is making your skin either too oily or too dry.

Establish a skin care routine atleast 45 days before your wedding. Speak to a professional if this is new to you. If it is not working for you, you can stop and start something that does work for you.

Facials
Don’t have a facial one day before d-day. Your skin needs at least three days for the effects of a facial to kick in. Right after the facial, your skin might look red and raw. Some women even notice break-outs.

Schedule your facial at least four days before your wedding. Get it done at a professional salon instead of leaving yourself at the mercy of a second cousin who saw how it is done on television. This is no time to save a few bucks.

Same goes for bleaching. If you are trying it for the first time, schedule your session 10 days before the event.

Diet
With guests coming frequently, with people to visit and places to go, it is easy to gorge on everything that is offered to you. This is the time to work that will power. Avoid fried food, sweets, caffeine and colas like you would the plague. This is also a good time to cut down on alcohol and cigarettes. All this is bad for your skin.

Instead eat lots of fruits and veggies and drink tons of water. Speak to a dietician and get a balanced diet chart and maybe some multi-vitamins on the side. This is the time to eat healthy, not starve to a size zero frame. You need loads of energy before, during and after your wedding.

Exercise
It is easy to make excuses to avoid exercising and this is a big no-no. Getting in some cardio and yoga everyday is a must for flawless skin. It improves the circulation and this is in turn switches on the glow in you. No matter how tempting it is to avoid exercise, do it anyway. You won’t regret it.

Cosmetics
Hoarding cosmetics is a sin always. Not just before your wedding. But a wedding is a good excuse to throw out all the cosmetics that are past their shelf life. Some skin lotions lose their effectiveness if held on for too long. Old compact powders, eye shadows and blush can harm your skin. Old eye cosmetics can cause infections. Lipsticks too can darken and dry your lips which are sensitive. Without further ado, it is time to re-stock your favourite cosmetics.

Take note of these rules and make some of your own and before long your skin will be look gorgeous. What rules did you follow before your big day? Share it here so brides can take helpful hints ahead of their big day!
