When we imagine a bride, a similar vision crosses our mind. A girl dressed in a laal joda, her head covered with a veil and her eyes looking down out of sharam. Our brain has been conditioned this way for years, thanks to society and the movies and TV shows we have grown up watching. A bride entering the house and voicing her opinions is shown as villainous and evil, after all sharam aurat ka gehna hai. However, the times are changing and the new-age brides are also changing. Yes! Gone are the days when the brides were supposed to only give a nod and blush for no reason at all. The brides these days are setting the standards that they are not here to be suppressed.

When we asked Sneha if the idea to drive the car on her vidaai was a spontaneous one or a planned one, she revealed that she had told her husband, Saugat about the same a few weeks ago. But little did she know that her man will support her dream and make it come true. She said, “So we had spoken about it weeks ago, and I told Saugat I’ll do this, he laughed and said yeah of course that sounds awesome and it really will be something! How her husband motivated her to take the charge

Sneha’s decision to drive at her vidaai is definitely breaking stereotypes and setting new standards for the brides out there. Well, it was not only an empowering move but for her, it also proved how much her husband loves her and allows her to be independent and herself. When we asked her the factor that motivated her to take this step, she shared, “I really didn’t think of any of this. I’m the one who’s always driving Saugat around. In fact, after our first date, I was the one who dropped him home, even though he had his own chauffeur-driven car. I’ve always been super independent when it comes to things like this, and he’s always let me be the person I am and encouraged me to do more.”

Her in-laws reacted like this

It is obvious for most of us to wonder what her in-laws must have thought because we live in a society where the in-laws are considered to be strict, creating a disparity between bahu and beti. Well, Sneha is not only blessed with a loving husband, but also with understanding in-laws. The only concern of her father-in-law was if she will be able to see and drive through the decoration made over the car and rest, they were all happy to see their bahu make the challenging move. She recalled, “They were more than happy! Saugat doesn’t drive and they know I am the one who drives him around. My brother in law sat behind and my husband said to my father in law “Daddy, she’ll easily manage” only because he was worried I would be able to see what’s in front because of the humongous floral bouquet on the bonnet.”

Her struggle to find a perfect wedding lehenga

While on one hand, Sneha has proved herself to be a cool, stereotype breaking bride, on the other hand, she decided to stick to her roots and go traditional with the choice of her lehenga. While the brides are ditching red these days, Sneha had chosen a traditional red lehenga for her wedding with Rajasthani maatha patti, white bangles and kundan neckpieces. Narrating her lehenga shopping story from Sabyasachi, Sneha shared, “When we went lehenga shopping, Sabya wasn’t allowing customers inside the store. We had to FaceTime them to see the stuff we liked, we’d sit outside the store and have a look. So I only saw about 6-7 lehengas and I liked the red. I loved it even more because it had no zari and it was simple and gorgeous.”

Reaching manzil of their 8 years long relationship

For Sneha and Saugat, it was their 8 years long love story that finally got its manzil, with the two tying the knot and being united by the sacred bond of the wedding. Their love story is no less than the ones, we all have grown up watching. From Saugat walking into Sneha’s café to her personally taking his order and making food for him on her own, the two walked into each other’s life. Saugat’s frequent visits to her café made them friends and they both ended up knocking on the doors of each other’s hearts and walking together till eternity. In her words “Saugat and I have been in a relationship for 8 years. And we finally managed to seal the deal happily and harmoniously. I’m a chef by profession and run a couple of cafes in Calcutta. He walked in one day with his friends and was very reluctant to eat at a vegetarian joint. I heard him tell his friends that he’d prefer another place cause he wasn’t in the mood for veg. So I made sure I take his order, and make him the food myself. He obviously loved it, he started visiting more frequently, we became friends, one thing led to another and here we are now after 8 looooong years.”
