During a Rajasthani wedding, the bride's maternal uncle gifted her more than Rs. 1 crore in cash, property, jewellery and other precious stuff during her 'mayra' ceremony.
Weddings in India are lavish affairs for a reason. Indians love spending all their fortune in the three-day affair and showing off their wealth. However, in most cases, the pressure is on the girl's family to give expensive gifts to keep the groom's side happy. In many authenticities, some give out gold coins, jewellery, cars, and other things to the in-laws in Milani. However, a Rajasthani wedding surpassed all the expectations of giving gifts as the bride's mama put more than Rs. 1 crore in the shagun ki thali.
For those who don't know, mayra ceremony is most popular in Marwai cultures, and mostly seen in Rajasthani weddings. It is a pre-wedding ritual that takes place one or two days before the main wedding. During the ritual, it is the mama (maternal uncle), who gifts the bride and groom with gifts, sweets and clothes to wear on the wedding day.
However, we stumbled upon a video from a Rajashtani wedding. In the clip, which surfaced on the internet, we can the bride's mama putting cash packets on a huge thaali. According to reports, he gifted Rs. 1 crore 11 lakh and 151 rupees to the bride. Not only this, even gifted precious jewellery, property documents and a tractor, leaving everyone in shock. His blessings and support for the bride is praiseworthy.
The bride's mama's extravagant reaction received mixed reactions. While some loved his heartfelt expression of love, others critised it. One user wrote, "This is the amount you pay to stop domestic violence there?" Another one commented, "There should be 23% GST on Dowry also… atleast then people will stop asking for it."
