Budget Considerations

The food and the buffet can be the most expensive part of a wedding and its budget. It’s not really possible to arrange appetizers, a buffet and a salad bar that will please everyone. But you can try. Here are a few simple finger foods that are high in starch and fat, and which are guaranteed to keep your guests happy till the main dinner event.

1) For the vegetarians, set up a station that creates fresh paneer kababs or even veggie kababs and keep those rolling out till the dinner event. Ensure that you back up the kebabs with a lot of dips like a yoghurt/mint dip or a Chinese schezuan dip. These kebabs tend to be real stomach fillers and are great accompaniments to beer and alcohol if you are serving them.

2) Potatoes rock simply because they can be made into any kind of starter dish. Ask your caterer to be creative or just set up region-specific stands like double roti, chaat and alu tikkis that will attract any kind of crowd. These crowd pleasers are also great to keep the children entertained and full till the dinner counters can actually start serving. You will save on the children’s dinner food too as these simple potato dishes tend to fill them up faster.

3) For the non-vegetarians, the choice is endless. Chicken kebabs and eggs rolls cut up into quarters are the ideal way to keep guests busy till dinner time.

Remember, you have to ask your caterer to strike a balance between cheap and delicious while sticking to the budget as well. Finger foods are the best way to fill up guests while they wait for the main dinner to roll out. And frankly, they tend to be so full, you usually save on the final dinner bill!
