Chiranjeevi did everything in his power to ensure that his son had the best upbringing. That included teaching Ram Charan a lifelong lesson by belting him on one occasion.
Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi's close bond as father and son has always garnered them admiration. The duo who have earned the names mega-power star and mega star respectively, have grown into best friends over time. However, the devoted son revealed that his father firmly corrected him whenever he was wrong during his childhood. He shared the only instance in which his father had beaten him with a police belt, teaching him a valuable life lesson.
During an interview with a TV channel in 2020, Ram Charan spoke of a faded childhood memory from the time he was 8. The Magadheera star recalled being strictly disciplined by his father for picking up some bad words. He had learnt the unfamiliar words from overhearing a conversation between his driver and a security guard.
In his innocent confusion, young Ram Charan approached his uncle, Naga Babu to ask him about the words. However, his father who had just returned home was quickly informed about his new vocabulary. While upset, Chiranjeevi chose to question his son calmly at first. Despite Ram Charan’s justification, Chiranjeevi decided to teach him a lesson he would never forget.
Ram Charan continued narrating how his father asked his uncle to leave the room. Chiranjeevi then reached for a belt that had been gifted to him by his own father. Ram Charan said:
“My grandfather had gifted a belt to my father after his retirement. He took that and beat me. He told me that those were very bad words and never use them in your life.”
Ram Charan stated that this was the only incident in which his father had ever physically disciplined him. However, it had a lasting impact on the beloved South star who made it a point to avoid making the same mistake ever again.
In the same interview, Ram Charan elaborated on the values Chiranjeevi enforced at home. The mega star was always strict about respecting women, never tolerating anyone arguing with the ladies of the house. This value is yet another one that Ram Charan has adopted from his father and maintained throughout his life.
Ram Charan was also asked how his father and wife, Upasana got along in the TV interview. He revealed that the two were like the best of friends. While even he might hesitate to approach his father at times, Upasana would walk right up to Chiranjeevi and rope him into a conversation. Ram Charan even went on to say that his father has likely supported his wife even more than him.
Speaking on Chiranjeevi’s relationship with the Konidela clan’s little princess, Ram Charan said the close bond between the two fills him with joy. He told The Times of India:
“When he's with Klin, he becomes like her older sibling. He lets her hit him, punch him...it's really cute to see that side of my father. He says, ‘Don't call me grandfather, it's so boring, call me Chirutha.’”
