My fair love, how shall thou be pleased? A bower of roses, or perhaps a string of emeralds? Or may be a Blackberry to keep in touch 24X7? Gift giving is not exactly a rocket science, but science nonetheless. (Gift giving during courtship is studied under the branch of science known as evolutionary biology. To put it simply, men give gifts to woo their women for the most primitive purpose of mating and hence the term ‘evolution’. Economically, it is an investment towards higher returns)

 Do not eye me suspiciously, I am just saying what researchers have proved through their theories. Now, something about do’s and don’ts of giving gifts to your fiancé which all the men must read and try to adhere to.

Commandments of Giving Gifts

Females do not like just anything or everything. Flowers are lovely, teddies are cuddly and chocolates are well ummmmm… but NO Practical Gifts. Expensive gifts are welcome, but they should not have any practical utility, because then the money spent is on behalf of the gift and not them. The logic makes sense, right?

The complexity of female mind extends far beyond what your logical mind can comprehend. Consider this:
 

• Diamonds are costly and are girl’s best friends. When you gift her diamonds, she perceives it as your commitment towards future and long term happiness. You are able and willing to love her forever. 
• If she likes reading or is musically inclined, then gifting her with rare collections of her favorite author or composer will indicate that you would go to any length to see her smile and have spent considerable time/energy to get the presents.
• By now, you must have realized that every gift has a symbolic meaning which she will associate with one of your many traits, which are not visible otherwise. Therefore, do not present her with clothes, cosmetics (or lingerie), unless and until you know about her tastes, preferences, comfort-level and size.
• Experience gifts are in and select those that she will enjoy and cherish. Dance classes, dinners, cookery sessions, riding, or any activity that you can do together. Go for gaming or paintballing. It need not always be romance as much it should be about camaraderie.
• The way you present your gift is also important as it will only make her feel special. Catch her unaware with your token of love and who knows, you might just get lucky! Gifts during courtship, especially in case of arranged marriages, help in creating companionship and taking the relationship several notches higher.

Interestingly, females do not have to fuss a lot while deciding the gifts (if they do, then it is basically a behavioral syndrome). Men know what they want and the gifts like gadgets, gizmos, watches are added bonus.
