Govinda was known to arrive late on the sets during the '80s and '90s. Recently, David Dhawan revealed how he managed to work with the actor in 17 films.
Govinda is one of the most loved actors in Bollywood. He has also been a dancer, comedian, singer, and politician. The iconic actor worked in over 165 Bollywood films and developed a reputation for his flawless slapstick comedy roles. Among all his films, the actor had the most successful collaboration with filmmaker, David Dhawan. Recently, David spilled the beans on how he successfully collaborated with Govinda over the years.
Recently, David Dhawan appeared on Arbaaz Khan's show, The Invincibles Season 2. In one of the promo, David Dhawan revealed that he was the only director who was able to work with Govinda in back-to-back films. For the unversed, the duo worked on successful films like Hero No. 1, Shola Aur Shabnam, Deewana Mastana, and more. The filmmaker said Govinda greatly respected him, so they worked well together.

Further, Arbaaz Khan mentioned that Govinda constantly arrived late on sets. Several filmmakers previously stated that the actor used to film 5-6 films simultaneously and arrived late on sets which caused problems to the directors. Arbaaz asked David Dhawan if he faced any problems with that habit. However, David Dhawan mentioned that he used to get his work done despite the delayed arrival of Govinda on the sets. In his words:
“Kaam khatam hota tha mera.”
One of the most successful film by David Dhawan was Partner, which starred Govinda and Salman Khan in the lead roles. David Dhawan revealed that Salman Khan initially did not want to do the film. However, he met Sohail Khan, who co-produced it and convinced Salman for the role. Later, Partner turned out to be a major box office hit.

On the work front, David Dhawan last directed Coolie No.1, a remake of his 1995 hit Coolie No.1. It starred his son, Varun Dhawan, and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. As per reports, David Dhawan is working on his next film again, starring his son, Varun Dhawan, which will be released in 2025. However, there has been no official announcement about it.
