Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee had a secret wedding even before they starred in the famous show, 'Ramayan', even their parents had no idea about it.
Debina Bonnerjee and Gurmeet Choudhary look like one of the most sorted couples. They know how to balance out their life and handle the tough situation, and it is one of the reasons why they are still going strong. However, many still do not know that Debina and Gurmeet got married way before their television serial, Ramayan, in a secret wedding.
Recently, in an interview with Instant Bollywood, Gurmeet Choudhary talked about his secret wedding and revealed that he got married at the age of nineteen when he wasn't legally allowed to. Gurmeet shared that their families didn't know about it till they rose to fame with the show, Ramayan.
Sharing details of the same, Gurmeet revealed that Debina was working with famous South stars and signing films one after the other, while he didn't even have money to put petrol in his bike. He thought that she would fall in love with a South star and would marry him. He said:
"Jab mai 19 ka tha tab mai ne shaadi karli, Debina tab South ki filme kar rahi thi, aur bade bade stars ke sath kaam kr rahi thi. Or mere pass ek Splendor bike hota tha, petrol dalne ke paise nahi hote the. Vo filme sign karti gayi or mujhe laga ki yaar ye toh bade bade stars ke sath shoot kar rahi hai, waha koi pata lega, shaadi ho jaayegi mai aise hi splendor pe ghumta rahe jaunga."
Sharing more insights into his secret wedding, Gurmeet revealed that Debina told him that she wanted to get married, so he used it as a chance to convince her. He shared that they decided they would get married and would not tell anyone about it. Debina thought it was a joke, but Gurmeet had made all the preparations. Reminiscing the old times, Gurmet stated:
"Usne kaha mera mann kar raha hai mai aau or shaadi karle, mai ne kaha, 'Haan, shaadi kar lete hai kisi ko batayege nahi. Tum aao tab tka mai pori taiyaari karta hoon.' Or actually, mai ne pori taiyari kari, toh jab aayi usko laga ki majak ho raha hoga, mai ne kaha boss yahi mauka hai. Goregaon mein ek Shiv mandir tha waha pr humne shaadi ki jo close friends the 3-4 vo log the, mangalsutra or yeh sara cheej kiya."
Gurmeet and Debina also kept their marriage hidden from the family as the former was just nineteen years old, and legally a boy should be 21 years of age to get married in India. Gurmeet added that they told them about their wedding after they completed Ramayan, and he had a Mercedes car with him. He said:
"Debina ke yeh kehta tha ki 21 saal ka hona chahiye ladke ko shaadi ka jo age hota hai. Vo shaadi ki or kisi ko pata nahi chala, uske baad mai or Debina ka Ramayan or yeh sara kaam start hua or tab jaa kar parents ko humne bataya ki humne shaadi karli hai. Lekin tab tak Splendor se Mercedes aa chuki thi."
Debina and Gurmeet secretly married in 2006, and later, in a grand wedding ceremony, they tied the knot again in 2011.
