Dhanush opened up about his marriage to his ex-wife, Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, for the first time. He also revealed how it wasn't a love marriage.
Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth's left everyone in shock, when they announced their separation in 2022. Recently, the ex-couple was granted a divorce after twenty years of being married. The Chennai Family Welfare Court accepted their divorce plea as they were not ready for reconciliation. Now, an old interview with Dhanush has resurfaced, wherein he talked about his relationship.
Tamil actor, Dhanush once shared that he had known Aishwaryaa as his elder sister's friend. However, it was due to the media linkup reports that their relationship came into being. In an interview with Rediff, Dhanush denied rumours of love marriage with Aishwaryaa. The actor shared that it was the media that started linking them together.
In an attempt to stop the rumours, their families came together with a solution. During the discussion, the families sugged the idea of getting them married, as they thought, 'What is wrong with the idea of marriage?' Dhanush then thanked the media for his marriage with Aishwaryaa and clarified that there marriage wasn't a love one. He said:
"So, I have to thank the media for my marriage with Aishwarya. I reiterate that ours is not a love marriage."
Dhanush also addressed the age issue, as Aishwaryaa was older than him. He shared that the age factor never affected him. However, to everyone's surprise, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa announced their separation with a joint note after eighteen of being together. However, Rajinikanth has not yet commented on their divorce.
On January 17, 2022, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa shared a joint statement. They added that they have been together as a couple, friend and parents to each other for the past eighteen years. But now, they have different path. It could be read as:
"18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been one of growth, understanding, adjustment, and adaptation. Today, we stand at a place where our paths separate."
