To give a recap of Dia Mirza’s personal life, she had experienced a broken marriage, attachment to her biological parents and step-parents, unhappy people in love, separation and remarriage of her parents. Dia had witnessed her parents’ separation at the age of 5. And 32 years later, at the age of 37, Dia had ended her marriage of close to five years and a relationship of 11 years with her estranged husband, Sahil Sangha. Dia and Sahil had decided to part ways mutually in 2019 and had announced their decision through a joint statement.

In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Dia Mirza was quizzed about what kind of a person she is. Dia retorted, “So, I vent, then return to my serene self. I’ve been meditating since 14 years and my mornings are spent in the building garden. Even my home is full of lush greenery, with birds and bees visiting. Otherwise, the city gets to you—so many angry people around, including the media.” When asked if she is hinting at the media frenzy about her separation from Sahil Sangha after five years of marriage, Dia replied, “Now every time people write about me, they mention I'm separated. I want to ask them to move on. My privilege as a celebrity doesn't disallow me pain. I derived strength from my parents' separation 34 years ago. I told myself that if I could handle it at four-and-a-half, there’s no reason why, at 37, I wouldn't be able to. Men and women hesitate to take certain decisions because they're afraid, you have to find the courage to believe that this too shall pass.”

Speaking of how her parents come from different religious backgrounds, Dia Mirza continued, “I was allowed to take my adoptive father’s surname. My birth certificate has a different name. My passport has both my adoptive and biological father's surnames. We are an inclusive society and don't care about religion. It's bizarre to paint everything with the same brush. I lost my biological father at nine, but up until then, we celebrated Christmas and Easter too.” Dia also added that they’d celebrate all Hindu festivals with her mother's family and all Muslim festivals with her stepfather's family.

In a MissMalini interview series called Girl Tribe, Dia Mirza had spilt her heart out while talking about her parents’ divorce, her step-father and the reason as to why she took up the latter’s surname. In the interview, Dia had spoken about her parents’ divorce which had happened when she was only 5 years old. She had revealed that she was very close to her father. Dia had remarked, “I was very much attached to my father at the age of 4, he was my hero. In Lage Raho Munna Bhai, the shot where I am talking about how my father has lied to me in the cab with Jimmy (Shergil), on how disappointed I am with that lie, I say he is my Hero. That line came because I always perceived my father as a hero.” (Also Read: Esha Deol Announces 'Good News' With A Picture Of Daughters, Radhya And Miraya As They Twin In White)

Dia Mirza had then shared how her biological parents had told her about their separation, “Haan, so that's actually a very important one. So, in my mind... In the child's mind my family, my parents were ideal. My set-up was ideal. It was perfect. I think I may have seen my parents fight on very few occasions, maybe once or twice. I saw one really bad fight. But otherwise, I was never really exposed to the fights. So, the first thing that I was startled about was their desire to separate."

Coming back to Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha’s separation, to announce the same, they had released a joint statement which could be read as “After 11 years of sharing our lives and being together, we have mutually decided to separate. We remain friends and will continue to be there for each other with love and respect. While our journeys may lead us down different paths, we are forever grateful for the bond that we share with each other. We thank our family and our friends for all their love and understanding and members of the media for their continued support and request everyone to respect our need for privacy at this time. We will not be commenting any further on this matter. Thank you, Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha.”

Dia Mirza had captioned her post as, “This is to clarify and put to rest all kind of speculation that is being bandied about by a certain section of the media regarding my separation with Sahil. It is most unfortunate to see the level of irresponsibility exercised. What is even more unfortunate is that our colleagues' names are being tarnished and maligned by this media. As a woman I will not stand for another woman’s name being used so irresponsibly to perpetuate a lie! There is absolutely no truth to the alleged reports and no third person is the reason for Sahil and I to part ways. We have requested the media to be graceful and allow us this time for some privacy. Really hope they can respect that.” This joint statement post was, however, deleted from Dia and Sahil’s respective Instagram accounts. (Also Read: Samantha Akkineni's Reaction When A Fan Blessed Her To Have A Baby Soon Is Too Sweet To Miss)
