Dia Mirza graced the candid chat at TechSparks Mumbai 2023 event and opened up about the conversations, which were created after she opted for a female priest at her wedding with Vaibhav Rekhi.
Bollywood actress, Dia Mirza is known for her stunning acting sense and constant advocacy for nature. Moreover, she is also looked at for her feminist revolutionary works. This was once again proven, when she opted for a female priest at her wedding with the love of her life, Vaibhav Rekhi on February 15, 2021. Now, in an interview, she opened up about the same and revealed what inspired her for the same. Apart from her professional commitments, Dia is now a mother to her and Vaibhav's son, Avyaan and also shares a beautiful bond with her stepdaughter, Samaira Rekhi.
Dia Mirza entered the ‘married ladies’ group after embarking on the journey of a happy life with her Mr Right, Vaibhav Rekhi. However, her decision to choose a female priest to perform their wedding rituals was a new concept at that time. Thus, as she graced the candid chat at TechSparks Mumbai 2023 event, Dia shared the inspiration behind such an out-of-the-box choice. She also mentioned how she had also discussed her wish with Vaibhav and said:
"When we were getting married, we choose a female pandit. We did that because female pandits exist, there a rarity. But they do. And I had seen this lady perform a wedding, and I thought it was the most magical, most honest, most beautiful experience I had had in my life. And I wanted it for us, which is why we went with a female pandit."

Further, Dia revealed the conversations, which were created after she opted for a female priest at her wedding to Vaibhav. She mentioned that her unique choice could give nationwide recognition to the female priests, who were otherwise performing for quite a considerable time. Furthermore, she mentioned that the job of performing the wedding rituals and other pujas is not only solemnised by men. She elaborated:
"That went on to create conversation. It made people say, 'Hey, if she could have a female pandit that her wedding. Whay can't we?' And what a wonderful thing for it to have because suddenly a lot of people sat up and said 'accha they exist.' It's not a job that is monopolised solely by men, just like every other job."
For the intimate wedding at their home garden, Dia opted for a red Banarasi saree by Raw Mango. She paired her laal shaadi ka joda with a choker set, jhumki, maang teeka, green Maharashtrian bangles and gajra. On the other hand, Vaibhav looked handsome in a white kurta-pyjama, along with a matching Nehru jacket. In a video that surfaced on the internet, Vaibhav’s daughter, Samaira was seen leading Dia towards the mandap, while holding a “Papa’s Girls” placard. This proved the two ladies' love for each other. Soon after the glimpses from Dia and Vaibhav's wedding had surfaced on the internet, fans were seen hailing the couple for their decision. While some netizens loved Dia for living feminism in the true sense, some were mesmerised to see how a priestess officiated their wedding. Moreover, many of her fans congratulated her for bringing an existing concept in the institution of marriage to the forefront.
