Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's legal battle became the talk of the town in 2022. The former emerged as a winner in the battle. Recently, in an interview, he seemed to have taken a dig at his ex-wife.
The highly publicised legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in 2022 took the media by storm. More or less, everyone knew about it, and the trial got so popular that it was even released as a 3-episode documentary, Depp V Heard, on Netflix. Although Johnny Depp has been in the entertainment industry for over three decades now and has some of the major blockbusters to his name, but this trial gave him much limelight as well.
In March 2019, Depp sued Heard for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post. Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against Heard, seeking USD 50 million in damages. In response, Heard filed counterclaims against Depp, seeking USD 100 million in damages.

Throughout the court battle, the famous Hollywood actor, Johnny Depp remained steadfast in his innocence and upheld his dignity. However, in his latest statement, he subtly digs at his former partner, Amber Heard. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor seemingly referenced the Heard situation when speaking about Dior standing by him. In an interview with South China Morning Post, Depp spoke about the brand’s continued loyalty. He said:
“For me, it’s become a personal partnership, a collaboration. I’ve been working with them for a while now. Of course, you develop a personal relationship with folks and keep close to them. They stuck with me through every single second, and that ups the stakes quite a lot for me, they trusted me, they believed in me, and they continued. That gesture is so noble and so rare!”
Around the time of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s trial, both actors stopped any projects on their professional front. Johnny Depp was even asked to step down from his role as ‘Grindelwald’ in Fantastic Beasts, but he continued to be the face of the men's perfume, Sauvage with the luxury brand, Dior. The brand even faced massive backlash for their continued support of Johnny Depp. Complimenting their loyalty, he further said:
“I’ve never been more touched or prouder to have had that support. Nobody does that, and the fact that Dior has, I thank every single person involved in making the decision to trust me and stick with me all the way from the bottom to the top and back down. I will forever be in their debt, I will forever be loyal.”

According to Variety, in May 2023, the 60-year-old actor signed a whopping USD 20 million deal with Dior to continue being the face of their men’s perfume, Sauvage. Despite his fans eagerly awaiting his official comeback, Johnny Depp has not yet signed any major Hollywood deal. Meanwhile, Amber Heard is all set to appear in the sequel of the 2018 sci-fi adventure, Aquaman.
For the unversed, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard first met on the set of their movie, The Rum Diary, in 2009. The two got married in a private island ceremony in 2015. However, their marriage only lasted for 15 months, as Heard filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ and alleging domestic violence, which led to a temporary restraining order against Depp. The couple reached a divorce settlement of USD 7 million in August 2016.
