It was on the sets of the film, Shola Aur Shabnam that Divya first met Sajid as he frequently visited the shoot to meet his friend, Govinda. For Sajid, it was love at first sight as he was bowled by her beauty. They started off as friends and later realised about their feelings for each other. Divya and Sajid wanted to marry each other but she was certain that her parents would never agree since the two followed different religions.
Divya Bharti was head-over-heels in love with Sajid Nadiadwala and was ready to break all the barriers to marry him. Within just 10 months of dating Sajid, she decided to get married to him. To tie the knot with Sajid, the late actress reportedly converted to Islam and changed her name to Sana.

As soon as Divya turned 18, she married Sajid in a private ceremony on May 10, 1992. The wedding took place at Sajid’s residence in Mumbai in the presence of a qazi, Divya’s hairdresser, and her friend, Sandhya. The wedding was kept a secret, so that it could not not hamper her illustrious career.
On the day of her wedding with Sajid Nadiadwala, Divya called her mother, Meeta Bharti and informed her about the same. She also asked her mother to sign as a witness, but she refused. Divya’s mother told her that she wouldn’t sign unless she told about her wedding to her father, Om Prakash Bharti.

After getting married to Sajid Nadiadwala, Divya Bharti continued to live with her parents, meeting him occasionally. Divya’s father had no idea that she had married Sajid without his consent. After a few months of their wedding, it was Sajid, who visited Divya’s family for Diwali and announced their wedding.
Divya Bharti was just 19, when she bid adieu to the world, breaking the hearts of millions. It was in the late evening of April 5, 1993, when Divya fell from the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment. She was rushed to the hospital, where the actress was declared dead. The circumstances of her death led to many conspiracies, but it was officially declared accidental in 1998.
