Actress Divya Khosla Kumar shares that 'Jigra' is a copy of her film, 'Savi'. Read on to learn more about it.
In a contentious Instagram Story, actress, Divya Khossla criticised Alia Bhatt’s most recent film, Jigra, and openly clashed with co-producer Karan Johar. According to Khossla, “Jigra is a copy” of her jailbreak-themed movie, Savi.
Divya Khossla Kumar alleges that "Jigra is a copy" of her film, Savi, a jailbreak story which released earlier 2024. Savi is inspired by The Next Three Days (2010), for which her team secured the rights. She notes that "both films share the same storyline", but her project "was in production first". In the jailbreak story, Savi, a wife, is sent to a high-security prison to free her husband. In Jigra, a sister sets out to free her brother, who is about to be executed from a prison, another jailbreak tale. Two individuals assist her along the way. The way two storylines are handled differently.
Alia’s uncle, Mukesh Bhatt, who co-produced Savi, is the common denominator between Jigra and Savi. When asked if she discussed the similarities with him, Divya Khossla confirms that the matter was indeed discussed with him but prefers not to involve him directly due to his family ties and age of 72. She emphasises that she has a deep and respectful relationship with him while acknowledging that the topic was brought up multiple times during the filming.
Karan Johar responded to her accusations by posting, "Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools” on his social media. Khossla quickly retaliated with another Story: “Truth will always offend fools opposed to it." The exchange highlights the ongoing tension between the two, drawing attention from their followers.
Divya Khossla Kumar recently expressed her concerns about being silenced through derogatory language when she spoke out about unethical practices in the industry. She questioned whether it is appropriate to label a woman as a fool for advocating for change, noting that it raises serious concerns for newcomers in the field if she faces such treatment.
She emphasised that no one holds absolute authority and asserted her right to be treated with respect. Everyone deserves to have their voice heard and valued in this industry. In her words:
"Today, when I speak up, Mr Karan Johar uses derogatory language to shut me down. Is it right to call a woman a fool for pointing out unethical practices? If this happens to me, what about those new to the industry? No one is a king here, and I won’t be treated like a subject. Many more derogatory words were used in their PR articles and called my taking a stand as a PR stunt. I’m sorry, I don’t need one. I’m already well known."
In her first post, Divya Khossla accused actor Alia Bhatt of profiting from "fake ticket bookings." She suggests that Alia shouldn’t feel the need to use such tactics, as she is already well-established in her career. However, she believes that true heroism lies in standing up against wrongdoing. She advocates for the audience to judge based on merit rather than being influenced by money and power.
