Amber Heard's role as 'Mera' in the 'Aquaman' franchise got saved by her ex-lover, Elon Musk's threatening letter to Warner Bros. But why did they want her out? Details inside.
Amber Heard's name is once again making headlines, but unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. The American actress became a focal point in the media back in 2022, due to her highly publicised legal battle with acclaimed actor, Johnny Depp. The trial gained widespread attention, and it was even made into a three-episode documentary titled, Depp V Heard on Netflix. Almost everyone was aware of this case and its details.
Now as per a report by the media outlet, Variety, Amber Heard’s attorney, Karl Austen got letters from both Warner Bros. and the director of Aquaman, James Wan regarding shelving Amber’s role from the sequel of the said movie. They said in the letters that there was no striking chemistry between the two leads, Jason Momoa and Amber Heard.

But here’s the twist! Elon Musk, ex-boyfriend of Amber Heard, jumped into the matter and defended his former partner from getting fired from the Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. The whole feud unfolded when the trailer of Aquaman’s sequel dropped on September 14, 2023. On the very same day, some previously unseen embarrassing documents from the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial surfaced on Reddit, and thus, the film studio found themselves facing a new headache.
As it was not enough that a large section of people did not want Amber Heard in the movie, the director, James Wan, as well as the lead actor, Jason Momoa, also had their opinions against casting her as the lead actress. As per the same report by Variety, Johnny Depp's fans paid the court fees to obtain documents from Amber Heard's therapist, Dr Dawn Hughes. These documents contained handwritten notes on a legal pad. The same documents described a hostile environment on the sets of Aquaman, where Jason Momoa, was allegedly intoxicated, and used to dress up like Depp. He went to the extent of wanting Amber Heard to be removed from the role of ‘Mera’, the aquatic superhero.

According to a source who is familiar with the behind-the-scenes battle said that the studio, Warner Bros. could never fire Amber mainly because her ex-boyfriend, Elon Musk, had one of his litigators send a threatening letter to the studio. The letter warned Warner Bros. that if the actress were not brought back for the sequel, it would lead to dire consequences. Consequently, Warner Bros. backed down and went ahead with Amber Heard for the movie’s sequel, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.
