Emraan Hashmi Says His Son Was Diagnosed With Cancer At 4, After A Family Brunch, 'Doctors Told..'

Emraan Hashmi recently opened up how they got to know about son's cancer at the mere age of 4 and shared how he felt during the challenging time in life.

Emraan Hashmi who is popularly known as 'serial kisser' in Bollywood rose to fame with his bold and intense on-screen roles in films like Murder, Aksaar, Aashiq Banaya Aapne and more. Gradually, he shifted from that image and entertained fans with his unconventional roles in Jannat, Azhar and Tiger 3. But, the star who has always entertained his audiences, himself experienced a significant heartbreak in his life that was far beyond the glamourous world of cinema. The actor, admired for his family man image off-screen, went through a major emotional turmoil when his 4-year-old son, Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer. In a new interview, the actor recalled that difficult phase of his life.

Emraan Hashmi reveals his son showed cancer symptoms at a family brunch 

Emraan Hashmi is a prominent actor who rose to fame in the 2000s. Despite facing several ups and downs on his professional front, the actor continues to entertain fans with his versatile roles. But, behind that hard work, fans know how the actor struggled with his son's cancer battle at 4 through his book, The Kiss of Life. After a long time, Emraan opened up about the same in a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast show and called it the 'most difficult' phase of his life. He admitted that no professional downfall can compare to that and said:

"I think the most difficult phase of my life was when my son got sick in 2014. I think even professional upheaval can't compare to that. I won't be able to put into words what that phase was like. It wasn't just a moment; it lasted for five years. My whole world flipped in twelve hours."

He revealed that it all began during a casual family brunch when his son first showed symptoms. Soon, within hours they had multiple hospital visits and urgent treatments that altered his life. For those unaware, in 2014, the actor's son was diagnosed with cancer, and Emraan went through something no parent would ever want to face. Recalling the incident, he said:

"My son fell ill in January 2014. It was a shock we were completely unprepared for. My life changed in a single afternoon. On January 13, we had gone for brunch at Taj Lands End and were eating pizza when the first symptom appeared at the table. He had excused himself and passed blood in his urine. That was the first sign. What began as a joyful, happy brunch turned into something completely different. Within three hours, we were at a doctor's clinic, and the doctors told us that our son had cancer. They said he needed to undergo surgery the next day, followed by chemotherapy."

Emraan Hashmi says he can't read the book he wrote documenting his experience through the phase 

Emraan Hashmi penned his biography, The Kiss Of Life that was co-authored by Bilal Siddiqui. It sheds light on the difficult phase of his life including his rise to fame and insights from his life including the challenges he faced when his son, Ayaan was battling cancer. The actor shared that his son, who is now 15 remembers only a few bits and pieces from that phase. Consequently, he hopes his son will one day read the book to understand what his family went through. Emraan, who wrote his experience to support and guide other parents dealing with similar challenges, admits he can't get back to reading the book. Sharing his reason, he said:

"I don't think I can also read it or go back to that time. Obviously, I remember everything, but reading it in print is very painful for me."

Emraan Hashmi is the son of Syed Anwar Hashmi and Maherrah Hashmi. His grandmother, Meherbhano Mohammad Ali (known as Purnima), was a popular actress. She was the daughter of Shirin Mohammad Ali, the mother of producers Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. At the same time, he is cousin of Mohit Suri, Pooja Bhatt and Alia Bhatt. He tied the knot to his longtime girlfriend, Parveen Shahani in an Islamic wedding ceremony in December 2006 and they have a son, Ayaan Hashmi. On January 15 2014, Ayaan was diagnosed with first-stage cancer, but in January 2019, he was declared cancer free.
