Years after calling the former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan 'plastic' on Karan Johar's 'Koffee With Karan', Emraan Hashmi has reacted to his previous statement.
Emraan Hashmi started out in the Hindi film industry almost two decades ago and became popular after starring alongside Mallika Sherawat in the 2004 film, Murder. Most recently, he was seen on the web series, Showtime, along with Mouni Roy, Naseeruddin Shah, Mahima Makwana, and more. In one of the promotional interviews for his now-released series, Emraan talked about the time when he had called the former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai, ‘plastic’.
Emraan recently sat for an interview with The Lallantop and revisited the incident when he had referred to the stunning Bollywood actress, Aishwarya, as ‘plastic’. He expressed his desire to extend an apology to Aishwarya if she felt offended by his words, reiterating his respect for everyone. He said:
“I regret it. I keep saying that I have the utmost respect for everyone I spoke about.”

During his appearance on the popular talk show, Koffee With Karan season four, Emraan had tagged the former Miss World as ‘plastic’ while playing the rapid-fire round. This statement by the actor attracted a lot of attention, and people even slammed him left, right and centre for his contentious and callous comment about Aishwarya Rai. While the latter never reacted to the statement upfront, once, in an interview with Filmfare, when she was asked what the worst thing anyone had spoken about her was, Aishwarya said that she was called ‘fake and plastic.’
Further continuing his chain of thoughts in the same interview, the actor added that he regretted his statement as it was distasteful. He emphasised that nowadays, people have become very sensitive, and they would make a mountain out of a molehill. However, he thought that they were just playing a game, people should have taken it sportingly. In his words:
“I regret it because it was distasteful. Lately, people have become very sensitive. People get mad at everything on social media. In terms of the show, we were playing a game, it was all in jest. It was supposed to be taken sportingly. There are many such games in the show. Earlier, people weren’t this sensitive.”

Earlier, Koffee With Karan’s host, Karan Johar, had mentioned that the rapid-fire rounds in his show have become boring as people take offence to every little thing nowadays. Emraan mentioned this statement by the filmmaker and tried to convince saying that he just wanted to take the hamper home. Hence, he said what he did about Aishwarya. In his words:
“Recently, Karan Johar himself confessed that the rapid-fire round in the latest season of the show was the most boring. It’s because now, the environment has completely changed. You can’t give such answers anymore. At that time, I just wanted to win the hamper and I ended up saying what I said.”
