Popular actor, Emraan Hashmi shared his thoughts on Kangana Ranaut's statement on 'nepotism' in Bollywood. He recalled the time when he worked with Kangana in 'Gangster'.
Emraan Hashmi has made a name for himself in the Indian entertainment industry ever since he stepped into it. The actor has many popular films, such as Murder, Zeher, Kalyug, Aksar, Gangster, and many more, under his name. He was last seen in the 2023 Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer, Tiger 3, and his role as the antagonist was much appreciated by the audience. As of now, Emraan has his hands full with the promotions of his upcoming web series, Showtime. In one of such interactions, the actor talked about the nepotism debate in Bollywood.
In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Emraan talked about how during COVID-19, there was so much negativity towards the Hindi film industry. He also shared his thoughts about the debate on nepotism. The actor revealed his thoughts on his Gangster co-star, Kangana Ranaut’s claims on nepotism and recalled the time when the two had worked together. He said:
“I like Kangana a lot personally, as an artist, and a person. Maybe she might have had some bad experiences in the film industry.”

Elaborating his thoughts on Kangana Ranaut’s started debate on nepotism, Emraan said that even though he had given a hit back when they were shooting for Gangster, Kangana was given centre stage. He mentioned that the duo’s 2006 film was almost like a female-centric film. Emraan said that people think that all the stars are drug addicts and that the industry works through nepotism, that is not true at all. He said:
“My experience with Kangana was such, that I had given a hit that time, but still in Gangster, I took the villain’s role where she was given centre stage. It was almost like a female-centric film. So, I don’t know when this perception about the industry started, and people started saying that we all are drug addicts or that the industry only works through nepotism. I think it is dumbfounding and not true.”
In 2016, Kangana Ranaut talked about nepotism in Bollywood and openly called out the popular director-producer, Karan Johar. In one of the episodes of Koffee With Karan season 5, the actress called him the flagbearer of nepotism and revealed that KJo had given her a hard time. Kangana has always been very vocal about nepotism in Bollywood and time and again, she calls out people for the same.

In the same interview, Emraan Hashmi also talked about the time during the pandemic when Bollywood was portrayed in a negative light. He said that after the Sushant Singh Rajput's episode, the negativity had increased and ordinary people resented the people from the industry. The actor said:
“There was a lot of negativity towards the industry after Covid, and even after the Sushant Singh Rajput episode, and the Boycott Bollywood trend for that matter. There was a resentment, where the entertainment industry was focused on singularly.”
