Emraan Hashmi debuted with his uncle, Mahesh Bhatt's film, 'Footpath.' In a recent interview, he shared that he got a clear warning from Mahesh Bhatt before the film.
Emraan Hashmi has been one of the most successful actors in Bollywood and comes from a filmy family. For the unversed, he is the grandson of veteran actress, Purnima Das Verma, and his uncle, Mahesh Bhatt, gave him his debut film. However, Emraan's path towards acting wasn't as simple as many people think. He recently sat down for an interview with Shubhankar Mishra and shared exciting anecdotes about stepping into the world of Hindi cinema.
Although it's challenging to make a career in the Hindi film industry, the Murder actor feels he was at the right place and time. He feels that his profession choose him. For the unversed, Emraan worked as an assistant director in the film, Raaz before making his debut. But even then, his uncle, Mahesh Bhatt, who gave him his debut film, Footpath, had warned him that he would remove Emraan if he didn't act well. Emraan recalled the incident, saying:
"He clearly told me that 'we are not a charitable association. If you won't be able to act and if the audience won't like your performance, I won't hesitate at all to throw you out of the film.' Mahesh Bhatt always pushes you to the edge, he used to scare us so much that the person would end up learning the skill. He never consoled me. I think that's exactly what helped me."

Emraan comes from a family of stars. His grandmother, Purnima Das Verma, was a veteran actress. She acted in more than 80 Bollywood films. Purnima was a famous actress in the late 40s and then the 50s. She was against Emraan's decision to pursue acting as she thought he couldn't do it. The Tiger 3 actor was inspired by his grandmother to take up acting, but she didn’t agree with his decision because she had seen many ups and downs in her career. So, she was protective of him until Mahesh Bhatt stepped in to convince her. In Emraan's words:
"She was a little protective about me and was often telling me to look for an alternative career option. However, later, when Mahesh Bhatt said, 'I believe he can be an actor, I will launch him' is when she felt at ease. After this, she was finally convinced. She didn't think that I can be an actor or can act. Mostly because, I didn't have any such dream as a kid. I didn't even have the conventional looks, neither was I good at dancing."
