Years later, Esha Deol shared her father's side of the story and why he didn't want her to act in films like her step-brothers, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
Esha Deol is the first Deol daughter, who entered the film industry. She was just eighteen when she convinced her father, Dharmendra (who was hailed as an angry young man), to let her act in films. However, years later, Dharmendra still gets trolled for his reluctance to let his daughter, Esha, act in films. While netizens often call him an 'absentee father', Esha truly understands him and the reason why he never wanted his daughters to be in the films.
Recently, in an interview with the Bombay Times, Esha Deol was questioned why Dharmendra didn't want her to enter films. The gorgeous actress shared that the decision was from the orthodox Punjabi male, who is extremely protective of the women in his family. She added that it was his way of showing protectiveness and nothing else. Esha further shared that with time everything falls into place.
Further in the interview, Esha shared that Dharmendra loves shopping online, and she does it for him. Esha stated that she is extremely attached to her father, and he understands her without even the need to express herself.
Recently, we stumbled upon an old interview with Simi Garewal. In the video, Hema Malini answered the host's questions about whether the support of a spouse is a must. To this, the legendary actress revealed that to take a few decisions regarding children. Hema further added that whenever Dharmendra is in Mumbai, he sees that he meets the family, and would ask them about their studies
Hema Malini added that Dharmendra would like their daughter, Esha and Ahana, to dress up in salwar kameez. She further shared that their daughters deck themselves up in salwar kameez whenever he comes home. Hema's daughter also joined the interview, and in the edited video, Esha talked about her decision to join films, and she would make Dharmendra accept it slowly. Otherwise, he would get angry.
The then-seventeen-year-old, Esha also revealed that her father always tells them to sit at home. He called his upbringing Punjabi type and added that he is possessive about them. Esha further added that they are not allowed to go out that often.

Just a week after, Karan Deol's grand wedding in Mumbai, which all the close family and friends attended, Dharmendra penned a public apology for Hema Malini. On June 28, 2023, Dharmendra took to his IG handle and shared a photo with Esha Deol.
Dharmendra also addressed Esha, Ahana and Hema and shared how much he loves and respects them. He added that he should have spoken to them personally and put a folded hand emoji. He wrote:
"Esha, Ahana, Hema all my darling kids and loving Takhtani’s Vohra’s l love you and respect you all from the core of my heart, age and illness is telling upon me I could have spoken personally to to you. but (folded hand emoji)."
