Fardeen Khan On His Hiatus Of 14 Years, Reveals He Needed Some Time To Cope With His Father's Demise

Fardeen Khan talks about his hiatus of fourteen years and remarks how he needed time for himself after his father, Feroze Khan's death.

Fardeen Khan left everyone’s jaws dropped with his fantastic performance in his comeback series, Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actor forayed into period drama for the first time-ever, and his character of ‘Wali Mohammad’ has garnered a lot of appreciation from the fans. For the unversed, the actor was last seen in the 2010 film- Dulha Mil Gaya. And in a recent interaction, Fardeen addressed the several reasons which made him take such a long hiatus from films.

Fardeen Khan lists his father’s demise, his own health scare reasons behind his hiatus

In a recent interaction with PTI, Fardeen Khan walked down the memory lane and retrospected on the various episodes in his life in the past fourteen years, which made him stay away from films. He recalled how after his father, Feroze Khan’s death, he felt the need to spend some time alone. Furthermore, Fardeen spoke about his own health scare, when he ended up gaining massive weight due to unhealthy lifestyle. Adding how he never believed that he would end up spending so much time off films, Fardeen said:

“I needed some time to myself after I lost my father. I had a bit of health scare back then. I just needed to take some time off but believe me, it wasn’t planned to be so long.”

Fardeen recalls how he wanted to spend more time with his children after they were born

Moving forth in the conversation, Fardeen Khan also delved over a special reason, that contributed in him delaying his comeback for some more years. Well the fabulous actor and doting father talked about his baby girl, Diani’s birth in 2013, followed by his son, Azarius coming into the world. Fardeen stated how after that eventful chapter in his life, he wished to just stay back and be with his children. In his words:

“Also, we were looking to have children. When my daughter was born in 2013, my heart just melted and I said I would like to spend some time with her, and enjoy being a father full time. Then my son was born.”

Fardeen recalled Sanjay Leela Bhansali brutally rejecting him for work in 2000s

In a roundtable conversation with the rest of his Heeramandi co-stars on Pinkvilla, Fardeen Khan revealed how it was back in the 2000s, when he first landed on a chance to meet with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and approach him for work. The actor then narrated how back then, the filmmaker had brutally rejected him, as he felt Fardeen lacked a certain sense of fire in his eyes, that is essential to play any strong character.

Fardeen claimed that his role in Heeramandi was something he never did before

During the trailer launch event of Heeramandi, Fardeen Khan turned emotional over realising that it was fourteen years later that he was about to make a comeback to films. Moreover, he talked about the massive opportunity Sanjay Leela Bhansali gave him, and explained how the kind of role he has done in the series is extremely unexplored by him. In his words:

“For me, something I have never done. It was the perfect role for me, I felt, at the age I’m in, to come back to screen. It’s daunting to work with him; at the same time when you see it all together, it just all makes sense. I’m getting emotional now.”
