First-ever Miss Universe Pakistan, Erica Robin, revealed the thought behind designing her modest 'burkini' swimsuit, the 'bikini' for hijabi women.
Pakistan's first-ever Miss Universe candidate, Erica Robin, won everyone's hearts when she not only presented her country on the international platform but also kept her integrity intact with modest outfits. Pakistan is inclined towards the orthodox side of society and appreciates if women wear less revealing clothes. And their representative, Erica Robin, adhered to the country's norms and made it proud.
For the unversed, Miss Universe 2023 was the 72nd edition of the pageant, which was held at the Jose Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador, on November 19, 2023. This year's Miss Universe was revolutionary in many ways, for the first time, the pageant had a plus-size contestant and not one but two Trans women participants. With that, the pageant's rules were altered per the country's traditions, and Pakistan was allowed to wear a modest outfit in the swimsuit round.

Pakistani model, Erica Robin appeared on Aamna Haider Isani’s YouTube channel and shared several insights on the pageant. Erica revealed that she wanted her countrymen to accept and celebrate Miss Universe, which is why she told her designers and the show authorities that she would not wear anything revealing. So, for the swimsuit round, where everyone is supposed to wear a bikini, she donned a ruffled baby pink burkini (burkha + bikini).
Erica revealed that Miss Universe authorities themselves gave her the burkini, and she did not choose the outfit. Erica added that she and the national director informed the authorities that Miss Pakistan will not wear a bikini and the rest was taken care of by the organisation. And Erica did not have any option but to wear the baby pink kaftan, aka burkini.
