Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are undoubtedly one of the ‘it’ couples in Tinseltown. They got married in 1991 in not one but three wedding ceremonies to celebrate each other’s cultures. They first registered their marriage, followed by a Hindu and then a nikah ceremony. According to reports, all three ceremonies took place on the same day. Six years after their marriage, SRK and Gauri welcomed their first son, Aryan. The couple then welcomed Suhana in 2000 and AbRam in 2013.

While SRK and Gauri have been happily married for three decades, there was a time when the latter’s parents were against her marriage with the actor. Religion became an obstacle in their union. She graced the Koffee couch with Hrithik Roshan’s now ex-wife, Sussanne Khan. During the conversation, KJo asked the celebrity wife how the religious differences played a part in their marriage.

Gauri said that as Shah Rukh’s parents passed away a long ago, and there weren’t any elderly people at their home, she took charge of religious activities at home. She would arrange prayers for Diwali, Holi, and other festivals. Gauri further mentioned that their kids would have much more influence from her religion than SRK’s, but their firstborn, Aryan was different. She said:

“Aryan is so into Shah Rukh, that he would follow his religion I feel. He will always say, ‘I am a Muslim.’ And when he tells this to my mother, she gets, ‘What do you mean?’ She's dealing with it, and it is true.”

Further in the conversation, Gauri mentioned that she respects her husband’s religion a lot. However, that doesn’t mean she would convert to Islam and become a Muslim. She added that everybody is an individual and would follow their own religion. Sharing that SRK won’t ever disrespect her religion, Gauri said:

“There is a balance. I respect Shah Rukh’s religion, but that doesn’t mean that I would convert and become a Muslim. I don’t believe in that. I think everybody is an individual and follows their religion. But, obviously, there should be no disrespect. Like Shah Rukh would not disrespect my religion as well.”

When Gauri Khan wittily responded to KJo’s query regarding her insecurity about being the wife of SRK

In the same conversation, KJo questioned Gauri if she ever felt insecure as Shah Rukh garners immense female attention every day. Well, Gauri was a bit hesitant at first and mentioned that she generally does not like to answer these types of questions. Moreover, KJo even said if she does not feel like answering it, she can just skip it. However, Gauri responded to the filmmaker's questions very wittily. She said:

“I have an aversion to these questions. Since it's you, I totally go blank when people even want to ask me these questions, I get really irritated, but anyway, I pray to God every day, little off track I’m gonna go that if we are not supposed to be together and he has to be with somebody else, then God help me also find somebody else also. And I hope he is handsome.”
