The position was previously held by Gautam Adani, and on January 4, 2024, he was redesignated as the executive chairman and Karan was named as the new MD. Karan Adani’s early life and education

Born on April 7, 1987, in the state of Gujarat to Gautam Adani and Priti Adani, Karan grew up in Ahmedabad. He did his schooling at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and went on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in General Management studies from Purdue University, USA.

Karan Adani’s business journey

After completing his education, Karan joined his family business and started working in various departments like finance, marketing and operations. Karan had joined the Adani Ports and SEZ Limited as a director, and under his leadership, SEZ Limited received the Economic Times Award in 2014.

Karan Adani’s appointment as the CEO of APSEZ

In 2016, Karan Adani was appointed as the CEO of APSEZ. As a CEO, Karan played a crucial role in expanding the company both in India and in international markets. In 2018, Karan led the acquisition of Kattupalli port in Tamil Nadu and made it the 10th port of APSEZ. In the same year, Karan was named to Forbes India’s inaugural list of 22 tycoons of tomorrow.

When Karan Adani was appointed as the head of Adani Group’s airport projects

It was in 2019 when the Adani Group announced a public-private partnership with the Airport Authority of India to develop six airports in smaller cities in India. Karan Adani was given the responsibility as he was appointed as the head of Adani Group’s airport projects. The six airports that were helmed under Karan’s leadership were Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Mangalore International Airport, Jaipur International Airport, Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Trivandrum International Airport, and Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport.

Karan was also instrumental in Adani Group’s acquisition of Ambuja Cements and ACC Cements. Apart from Adani ports, Karan also serves as the non-executive director of Ambuja Cements. He was also named as the chairman of cement maker ACC in 2022.  Apart from his exceptional business acumen, Karan is a philanthropist, who works on numerous campaigns for the betterment of society.

In an interview, Karan once stated the three pieces of advice he got from his father, which made him successful. As per Karan, his father urged him to remain grounded, keep it simple, and always consider the scale. As per Gautam if “one can’t think at scale, they cannot influence anything”.

Karan Adani is married to Paridhi Shroff, and the two have a daughter named, Anuradha Karan Adani. Paridhi Shroff is the daughter of Mumbai-based legal eagle, Cyril Shroff and his lawyer wife, Vandana Shroff. Cyril is the managing partner of India’s largest law firm, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas.

Paridhi and Karan tied the knot in 2013 in Goa. After the wedding, a grand reception was held in Ahmedabad, which was attended by the who’s who of the glamour, business and political world. Some of the eminent guests included Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Anand Mahindra, Anil Agarwal, BJP leader, LK Advani, PM Narendra Modi and others.
