We are talking about 51-year-old Gopal Vastapara from Surat, who is a real estate developer; needless to say a wealthy business tycoon. He planned a simple wedding for his son Vaibhav in February this year. It was a low-key affair and attended by only a handful of 300 odd people, which comprised only of relatives. But his humbleness does not end here. He told a leading newspaper daily:

“We decided to get our son married in a very simple function and instead use the money to help 100 girls from poor families by arranging their marriages. Our motto is Sarva Dharam, Sarva Samaj (All religion, all communities). The girls who will get married are from various castes and include six Muslims too.”

This mass wedding ceremony is going to be held in Chamardi, the native village of Gopal Vastapara. The girls from surrounding districts whose family is unable to bear their wedding expenses have been identified by Gopal himself. In Indian culture, kanyadaan is considered to be the virtue of highest order and by doing such a good deed, Gopal will definitely earn blessings.

What is more commendable about this businessman is that he has kept no caps or controls in this mass wedding ceremony. Instead, he wants to make it a lavish affair. He has asked the bride and the groom to call as many people as they want in their wedding. A rough estimate calculates at least 60,000 attendees. And if this is not enough, he has even promised to take care of all the basic necessities of the new couples to start their household. He might spend at least 3 crore rupees on this wedding ceremony for which he is indeed happy and satisfied.

Gopal has also said that he will arrange such mass weddings for the next 10 years and help the underprivileged. Also, in the wedding all the couples will take a pledge on “Save the Girl child and Save Environment.”
