As Harbhajan Singh candidly made a comment on Virat Kohli and KL Rahul's wives' cricket knowledge, the netizens slammed the former cricket brutally. However, some also supported him.
The final ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match between India and Australia took place on November 19, 2023, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Talking about the scores, India was bowled out for 234 after 39.4 overs, and Australia lifted the winning trophy. Ricky Ponting was declared the Man of the Match for his 140 not out. Amidst all this, retired cricketer and cricket commentator, Harbhajan Singh sparked huge social media outrage with one of his comments while doing the Hindi commentary in the final ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match.
To support team India and their cricketer husbands, some of the cricketers' wives, including Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty were also present at Narendra Modi Stadium. However, while doing the match commentary, Harbhajan Singh, who is best known for discussing an array of topics over the microphone, made a sexist comment about Anushka and Athiya. It so happened that while Harbhajan was doing the commentary, the camera focussed on the two actress wives, and they were discussing some topic best known to them.

With Anushka and Athiya's gestures and facial expressions, it seemed that the topic of discussion between the two of them was quite intense. As both of them hailed from the film industry, Harbhajan candidly guessed the topic of discussion between Anushka and Athiya. However, the former Indian spinner also added that Athiya and Anushka might be discussing films since he is unaware of their cricket knowledge. Harbhajan said:
"Yahi main soch raha tha ki baat cricket ki ho rahi hogi ya phir films ki.. kyunki cricket ke baare mein toh main jaanta nahi kitni samajh hogi."
As soon as the video surfaced on the internet, netizens started slamming Harbhajan for his sexist comments on Anushka and Athiya. One user wrote, "What do you mean that the ladies understand cricket or not?? Please apologise immediately." Another netizen commented, "Yes yes. Heard that. Run of the mill misogyny."

A few netizens also supported Harbhajan and mentioned that he has candidly spoken about the same. While one user wrote, "What they are discussing can be anybodys guess..no need to apologize", another mentioned, "What u think Mr. harbhajan does not acting...u please apologize immediately too."
