As Hema Malini and Dharmendra celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary, their doting daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol penned heartfelt notes for their parents.
The millennials are embracing the modern love hookup culture so much so that they have ignored the essence of forever love. Love is not just about the right swipes and social media PDA, but it is a lifelong commitment. We are living in an era, where most of us believe that true love doesn’t exist, but some real-life stories reinstate our faith in marriages and open our hearts to the world of romance. In the late 60s, a love story had begun on the sets of the film, Tum Haseen Main Jawaan and proved that if the love is true, it will always find its way. Revealing how she is spending time in the lockdown, the actor-turned-politician, Hema Malini had told RJ Anmol during a chat, “When I have to catch a flight, I don’t do yoga or mediation. Now I am getting full time. I do yoga and meditation in the morning. My trainer used to come for the workout, now I do without him. Now the helpers can’t come and go. The one who is there with me can’t go out. So, I don’t give him too much trouble. I washed my own clothes, did jhadu-pocha too. I also watered the plants in the balcony. You feel very independent and you feel very nice that you can do everything and don’t need a servant. I also water the plants on the terrace. The cook is at home so that’s not a problem.”
When Hema Malini and Dharmendra had tied the knot, it had raised many eyebrows owing to the married status of the latter. In 1957, Dharmendra had tied the knot with Prakash Kaur and the couple has four children, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta Deol and Ajeita Deol. So, when Dharmendra had fallen for Hema Malini, she was reluctant to pursue her relationship with him because he was already a married man with four kids. But that didn’t stop Dharmendra from falling in love with Hema Malini. After fighting the odds and allegedly converting into Islam, Dharmendra had tied the knot with Hema in a nikaah ceremony in 1979.
In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Hema Malini had opened up on her decision of marrying Dharmendra and how she married him but didn’t take him away from his first wife and kids. She was quoted as saying, "The minute I saw Dharam ji, I knew he was the man for me. I wanted to spend my life with him. I also wanted to make sure that the marriage hurt nobody. His first wife and children have never felt my intrusion in their lives. I married him, but I never took him away from his first family.” (Also Read: Hema Malini Declares Her And Husband Dharmendra's Assets Worth Rs 225 Crore In A Affidavit [Details])
