In a recent interview, Himani Shivpuri opened up about offending Karan Johar by her comment during the last day of 'K3G' shoot.
Veteran actress, Himani Shivpuri is one of the popular faces of the 90s and early 2000s. She was cast by Dharma Productions in Karan Johar’s directorial, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, but never worked with him after that. The 2001 movie, K3G starred Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kajol, and Hrithik Roshan in the lead roles, and Himani played the role of 'Haldiram’s (Johnny Lever) wife.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Himani Shivpuri opened up about her role in Karan Johar’s film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which was followed by her stint in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. She recalled that she asked Karan to offer her better roles in the future, and she might have offended him. The actress said:
“During the last scene (of K3G), Karan Johar came to me and said, ‘Lovely working with you Himani ji, you are my lucky mascot!’ I told him ‘Please, from next time, give me a good role’. He said ‘yes Himani ji, I will’.”
Speaking along the same lines, Himani recalled her meeting with Nikkhil Advani at a film screening and revealed that he told her that he wanted her on board for Kal Ho Na Ho. However, she didn't receive any call for any of the Dharma films that went by. Talking about it, Himani said:
“I asked Yash Johar, who was standing there, for signing amount and he gave me a dollar! I told my secretary that he should meet Nikkhil because I spoke to him but when he met them, he was told there was no such role for me. Then a few more Dharma films went by, I was not called, so I was left wondering what was happening.”
Himani Shivpuri also recalled that she once bumped into Karan Johar at an award show and asked him what went wrong. She also pointed out that she was not cast in Kal Ho Na Ho despite Nikkhil approaching her. To this, Karan told her that the role wasn’t good enough for her and he would approach her if he ever found a meaningful role for her. Himani added:
“Karan told me, ‘No no Himani ji, that role wasn’t good enough for you. Aapke layak role hoga na tab bulayege aapko. Then it struck me, ki meri baat shayad lag gayi. That’s where the chapter ended. I do feel bad, it used to be a lot of fun. We would gossip a lot and were good pals. Maybe we didn’t meet so often that we could break the ice.”
Karan Johar made his filmmaking debut with the film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Later, he proved his mettle in direction with the film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Karan Johar has made many blockbuster films for the Hindi film industry, and his contributions are praiseworthy. He has directed five more films, and the last one was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The filmmaker is now looking forward to directing his next film, which is reportedly an actioner.
