Rushad Rana, popularly known for his role in shows like 'Anupama' and 'Hip Hip Hurray', recently opened up about his first marriage and how his ex-wife treated him.
Rushad Rana had a rather painful experience in his first marriage which he would rather forget. Once the lead face of the popular serial, Anupama, Rushad recently opened up about his toxic marital life in an interview.
Rushad Rana recently appeared in an interview with his college friend and TV host, Siddharth Kannan on an exclusive chat on The Siddharth Kannan Show. Once the lead face of the popular serial, Anupama, Rushad recently opened up about his long-term absence from the industry, past marriage conflicts and how he made his mark in Bollywood. Talking about his first marriage, the actor revealed that it was a love-cum-arranged marriage.
When the interviewer asked whether she was aware of Rushad’s profession as an actor, he clarified that it was the other way around. The Anupama actor went on to describe how his ex-wife was initially a fan of his and was obsessed with his work on screen. Rushad reflected that she might not have understood the dynamics of the acting industry before marriage. He recalled:
“Sirf pata nahi tha, she was my fan. Wo mere serials ke cassettes record karke mere episodes repeat mode mein dekhti thi. It was actually like a fan getting married to a star/actor… as soon as the marriage happened, a constant bombardment of ‘What are you doing with your life?’, ‘ye kab tak chalne wala hai?’... ‘Why don’t you get a job?’ ‘Why don’t you get settled?’... The father-in-law telling me, ‘How are you going to support my daughter, living in a city like Mumbai?’... blah blah blah.”
Rushad Rana and his ex-wife had only been dating for a year before they tied the knot. The actor revealed how during their dating, his acting dynamics and lifestyle were transparent before his ex-wife and her parents. His astonishment was evident when he said:
“Meri to dikkat wahi thi naa, ke aapko to sab pata tha. Then why, after getting married, are you asking me to change my profession? Agar aisa tha, to aap apni beti ki shaadi kisi doctor ke karwaate, kisi corporate ke CEO se karwaate… you could have gone for any typical profession that people want their daughters married to.”
The actor, while recounting the incident, moved on to reveal how his in-laws had interrogated him about his investments and financial statements before confirming his marriage with their daughter. He said:
“I will say this on camera, my bank statements were studied before the marriage happened, to see what kind of investments I have as an actor… There was absolutely nothing hidden.’
Unfortunately, the marriage ran its course within 2 years. Rushad Rana also confirmed that his ex-wife came from a decent family and did not even ask for alimony during the divorce. The actor is thankful to his parents and family for being supportive throughout and helping him get out of his misery and move on.
Rushad Rana started his acting career with the 1990s TV show, Hip Hip Hurray, later becoming a returning face in Television through serials like Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Savdhaan India, Sasuraal Simar Ka, Fear Files, and, of course, Anupama. He also appeared in many films in supporting roles, notably Mohabbatein, Veer-Zaara, Calendar Girls and Sanam Teri Kasam. He recently appeared as PM Shahzad Alam in the 2024 film, Ulajh. Rushad is now happily married to his wife, Ketaki Walawalker.
