Music and art have no language barriers, and this has time and again been proven by international singers who have embraced foreign languages and sung songs in varied vernaculars. Some Hollywood singers have come to India and delighted the nation with their musical prowess that too in the Hindi language. From international biggies like Akon and Sia to Nick Jonas and more, these singers from the West have nailed their Bollywood musical debuts.
Musical crossovers are always appreciated by the masses, especially when foreigners sing in their native language. Also, it is no rocket science that singing in a language other than your mother tongue needs a lot of dedication, hard work and will. So, here’s a list of Hollywood singers who have collaborated with Bollywood and have gone the extra mile to impress the Indian audience with their vocal melodies.

Hollywood singing legend, Akon came to India in 2011 and recorded not one but two Hindi songs for the movie, Ra.One. The sci-fi action thriller movie starring Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Shah Rukh Khan has the hit duo, Vishal and Shekhar as music composers. Their collaboration with Akon did wonders, and his two songs, Criminal and Chammak Challo, were a massive hit. Chammak Challo was also the most downloaded song of 2011 and, to date, remains iconic.
Who can ever forget the visuals of Hollywood icon, Snoop Dogg dancing and grooving to the title track of the 2008 hit movie, Singh Is King, along with Akshay Kumar? The UK-based rapper donned a traditional Indian sherwani and turban as he grooved and sang along to the tunes of the title track, Singh Is King along with Bhangra band, RDB and Akshay Kumar. The trio not only made the song a superhit, but its music video garnered much appreciation, too.

Thai pop sensation, Tata Young was the first ever international singer who lent her voice to an Indian song. The title track of the 2004 action thriller movie, Dhoom, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Esha Deol, Uday Chopra and John Abraham in lead roles, was a massive hit. ‘Dhoom Machale’ in Tata Young’s voice still echoes in our ears, and the song, Dhoom Dhoom, will forever be etched in our brains. In Tata’s voice, Dhoom Dhoom sold over 800,000 units in India.
Though the 2008 movie, Blue tanked at the box office, its song, Chiggy Wiggy, till date remains iconic. The song was sung by Australian pop singer, Kylie Minogue under A.R. Rehman's composition. Kylie even danced in the song's music video alongside Akshay Kumar, instantly making it a fan's favourite. Be it for her moves or peppy voice, the Indians loved Kylie Minogue.

Internationally famous DJ, Diplo composed the song, Phurrr for Imtiaz Ali’s directorial film, Jab Harry Met Sejal. Though the movie did not score well, its music was much appreciated. Diplo, Pritam Chakraborty, Mohit Chauhan, and Tushar Joshi composed and sang Phurrr. The song did not do well as compared to the other pieces from the album.
Hass Hass is the most recent musical crossover that has got everyone hooked to it. International hit singer, Sia sang this song in collaboration with Punjabi singer, Diljit Dosanjh . The song is under Warner Music labels, which is one of the world’s leading artistry companies, and any project done in association with them is bound to do well. Hass Hass is a global hit, and it is trending all over social media. People especially loved the part where Sia sang in the Punjabi language.

The British pop band, The Vamps, consisting of four members, Brad Simpson, James Brittain-McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans, sang the song, Bolo Har Har for the movie, Shivaay. Ajay Devgan starrer film, Shivaay’s title track was loved by every lord Shiva follower, and you will be surprised to know that foreigners sang the melodies track. The song was sung by multiple artists, Badshah, Sukhwinder Singh, Mohit Chauhan, Mithoon, Megha Sriram Dalton, and Anugrah along with The Vamps.
India’s jamai, Nick Jonas took to his YouTube channel and released a musical crossover were he along with Indian singer, King sang his hit song, Maan Meri Jaan. Fans went gaga when the Nick started to sing in Hindi and with utmost precision pronounced the Hindi words. Nick’s song is the afterlife version of the original Maan Meri Jaan and has over 5,6 crore views.
