Honey Singh has finally addressed the rumours about Shah Rukh Khan slapping him during a tour of the United States. He opened up about what really happened after nine long years in his documentary.
Rapper-singer, Honey Singh's tell-all documentary, Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous was released on the streaming platform, Netflix on December 20, 2024. In it, the influential rapper bared it all, from making revelations no one knew about to confessing. the painful details of the lowest phase of his life. One particular incident that Honey discussed involved Bollywood legend, Shah Rukh Khan. The former finally addressed the rumors about the Main Hoon Na star slapping him so hard that he needed stitches during a tour in the United States.
In 2013, Honey Singh performed the song Lungi Dance for the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, Chennai Express , which led to the two forming a friendship. Not long after, Shah Rukh invited the rapper, whose popularity was on the rise, to join him for a tour of the United States in 2014. Honey initially jumped on the offer. However, in his recently released documentary, Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous , the rapper confessed that he was severely overworked and exhausted back then. In fact, he even stated that was the first time it struck him that something wasn't right with his mind. Honey continued:
"Now, nine years later, let me tell you what really happened. Nobody knows what I'm going to tell you on camera now."
Honey recounted one evening when he was determined not to perform but was being forced to do so anyway. To get out of the situation, the rapper went so far as to shave his head and call his family back home in India. In Honey's words:
"When they took me to Chicago for the show, I said, 'I don't want to perform'. I was sure that I was going to die during that show. Everyone told me that I should get ready, but I refused. My managers came over, and they said, 'Why aren't you getting ready?' I said, 'I'm not going'. I went to the washroom, took a trimmer, and I shaved my hair off. I said, 'How will I perform now?' They said, 'Wear a cap and perform'."
Honey, dead set on not performing, held on tightly to his chair and refused to move an inch. Before long, he was yelling that he didn't want to perform. However, when that didn't work, he took more drastic measures. He spotted a coffee mug, picked it up, and smashed it on his head, resulting in a serious injury that needed multiple stitches.
However, rumours soon started spreading like wildfire that an altercation between Shah Rukh and Honey had caused the latter's injuries. It was alleged that the actor had attacked the rapper. Now, a little over nine years later, Honey has quashed the rumours, stating that Shah Rukh loved him too much to lay a hand on him. Honey firmly said:
"Someone started the rumour that Shah Rukh Khan slapped me. That man loves me, he'll never raise his hand on me."
Honey Singh's sister, Sneha Singh broke down as she recalled the harrowing incident, stating that it had convinced her he needed to come back home immediately. Through tears, Sneha recounted a desperate call from Honey, who begged her to save him. She revealed that she had been in her room when the rapper texted her and told her that something was not right with him. He also asked her to call him on Skype, and during the conversation, he begged his sister, "Mujhe please bacha lo, gudiya mujhe please bacha le."
Following this terrifying request, Honey hung up. Sneha then tried to contact Shalini, his manager and then-wife. Shalini's cold-hearted response to her was that Honey had to do the show, and Sneha had to convince him somehow to do it. The latter bluntly refused, saying that Honey had told her he wasn't feeling okay and that 'something bad' was happening. After this conversation, Sneha received no updates until she was informed three hours later that Honey was in the hospital with stitches in his head. Sneha and Honey's parents were also seen getting emotional as she narrated the ordeal.
