A husband denied paying Rs. 20 lakh alimony to his estranged wife, citing financial crunches due to his and his father's serious illness. The wife continued arguing, citing his salary package.
In today's world, divorce and alimony are the two terms that have been discussed widely. Every second day, be it in the glamour world or in the normal space, there's a divorce case, and it gets followed by the demand of a huge alimony from the separated wives. While some husbands get pressured and take drastic steps, just like Atul Subhash did, others try to fight for a fair judgment.
Recently, an incident related to the common issue of alimony happened yet again. Law Beat's IG page recently shared a video, wherein a hearing between an estranged couple was seen going on. The advocate of the husband claimed that his father is a cancer patient. The husband then clarified that while his father is ill, he also has an issue with his heart, and he needs to get his surgery done. He then pleaded to the judge to see his medical reports from Apollo and AIIMS to prove his claims. He also added that when the budget was Rs. 10K, then his salary was not that much.
He also added that his concerns for his kid will be the same, and he will provide everything for his child's education and medical needs. The husband also stated that he has a financial boundary and he won't be able to provide the amount he has been asked to pay. Reportedly, the wife demanded Rs. 20 lakh as alimony from her estranged husband. Talking about his financial condition, the husband stated that there's no security in his job as it's in the IT sector, hinting at the layoffs.
He went on to keep his point that if he committed to giving this huge amount to his estranged wife, as he can't promise, he could do the same in the future. The lady judge then replied by saying that if that happened, then there would be a judicial scene. On the other hand, the estranged wife, who was present in the court via video call, claimed that her estranged husband works at a reputed company in France, Idema, and he has a good package.
As soon as the video went viral, netizens started slamming the wife for her demands of lakhs when the husband was already going through the financial crunches. One user penned, "Taking alimony now it's become a Trend." Another user commented, "Legal terrorism on men becoming more and more everyday." A third user wrote, "Legal extortion scheme of India."
Be it anything, since the last few years, the divorce cases have increased, and so has the torture on men. The legal system has been tagged as corrupt and blamed for supporting women more than men, which raised concerns about men's safety in marriages as well. While divorce has become a common factor, alimony is also running in parallel line with this. Given several suicide cases of men, the buzz around 'alimony' has been heavier than before. Reportedly, marriage-related issues have become the cause of suicide among 3.28% of men in today's time.
