Imtiaz Ali On His Plans For A Horror Film, Remembers Spending Nights At Madhubala's Haunted Bungalow

Filmmaker, Imtiaz Ali talked about his cherished desire to direct a spooky film and revealed how he used to spend late nights at Madhubala's haunted bungalow.

Imtiaz Ali opened up about the unbelievable preps he made to direct a horror film

In an interaction with Ranveer Allahabadia on his podcast, The Ranveer Show, Imtiaz Ali shared his cherished desire to direct a horror film once in his career. The filmmaker, who is renowned for his contemporary tales of love on the celluloid, explained that he contemplated making a horror film a couple of times. Imtiaz further mentioned how he has often visited the famous Kismat bungalow of the late star, Madhubala in Mumbai and spent nights there in its darkest of corners, due to the rumours that the place is haunted by the spirit of the late actress. Sharing his experiences, Imtiaz said:

“Madhubala used to have a house, it was called Kismat Bungalow. It has been reconstructed now. But back in the day, they wouldn’t allow people to film there at night, and people generally wouldn’t want to film there at night because they believed that her ghost haunts the place. Who knows if that was true, but that’s what people believed. I shot there quite a bit at night. And I would go to the quietest, darkest corners of that house alone, and I used to wonder if Madhubala’s ghost would come.”

Imtiaz claims believing that Madhubala’s ghost would show up

Continuing with the revelation, Imtiaz Ali mentioned how he used to loiter around the old, abandoned and dilapidated bungalow, not being afraid. He added rather feeling a sense of romanticism seep inside him. Sharing his unusual thought that Madhubala’s ghost might just show upto him one day, he said:

“Although I don’t really believe in spirits, but I remember that feeling. It wasn’t just horror, there was something else. There was a sense of awe and romanticism. This is an interesting combination. I have shot nights at her old bungalow hoping for her ghost to show up.”

Imtiaz revealed why he wasn’t sure of casting Diljit Dosanjh in Amar Singh Chamkila

Off lately, Imtiaz Ali has gathered humongous praise and appreciation for his latest release, Amar Singh Chamkila. The film is a biographic take on the life and works of the eminent Punjabi folk singer by the same name. Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra were roped in to play the lead roles for the same. Considering the overflowing appreciation the film got, Imtiaz, in one of his interviews with Pinkvilla, once shared how he wasn’t very sure of having Diljit Dosanjh as the male lead. Expressing his reasons behind the same, the filmmaker mentioned:

“I couldn’t have imagined or there could’ve been nobody who could’ve played Chamkila or Amarjot except for Diljit and Parineeti. However, I wasn’t sure whether it’s gonna work out with Diljit for some reason. I thought he might not be able to do it, etc."
