'Indian Idol 1' Fame, Amit Sana Says Voting Lines Blocked For Him To Make Way For Abhijeet Sawant

After almost 19 years to the show, 'Indian Idol 1', runner-up, Amit Sana slams the channel for engaging in politics to make Abhijeet Sawant win the show.

Amit Sana and Abhijeet Sawant were two of the most popular names back in 2004, when the talented singers contended with one another for the finale of the reality show, Indian Idol 1. Though both were equal talents and had the capacity to mesmerise audiences with their soulful melody, in the end, it was Abhijeet who lifted the trophy, and Amit was crowned as the first runner-up. And now, almost 19 years past the show, Amit Sana reveals that he was purposely made not to win the show, and slammed the broadcasting channel for engaging in petty politics.

Amit Sana reveals broadcasting channel for Indian Idol blocked his voting lines to make Abhijeet Sawant win

Looking back at 2004, one can remember clearly the crazy fan following the very first season of Indian Idol had amongst the audience. Moreover, what can be remembered distinctly is the final fight between the contenders, Abhijeet Sawant and Amit Sana, which made people also take their sides and create a divide for their favourite singer. Fast forward to now, Amit Sana, in an interview with Sidharth Kannan, revealed that Abhijeet Sawant was purposely made to win the show, while voting lines for him were blocked two days prior only. He mentioned:

“My voting lines got blocked out two days before the last day. It doesn’t get blocked on its own. “A lot of people say that there was some political influence involved during that period of time but that’s all-just heresy. I haven’t researched it on my own.”

Amit Sana claims Abhijeet Sawant got fame after Shilpa Shetty praised the latter

In the same interaction, Amit mentioned that after so many years, he didn’t wish to bring up this topic, and even apologised to Abhijeet Sawant for the same. Moreover, he took a witty dig at the latter and mentioned that Abhijeet only got fame, and people started to take him seriously when Shilpa Shetty praised his smile in one of the episodes, where she came as a guest. In his words:

“A lot of things changed after that. He was taken seriously after that.”

Amit Sana recalls equation with Indian Idol’s second runner-up, Rahul Vaidya

In the concluding segment of the interview, Amit Sana recalled his interactions with one of his other contenders, Rahul Vaidya, who bagged the position of second runner-up in the show. Amit revealed that the two of them used to fight a lot, and added that Rahul used to instigate him a lot many times. Adding how Rahul loved to accumulate a lot of power, Amit revealed:

“We used to fight a bit during the show. He used to say things to instigate me. From what I understand, he likes to accumulate power. He has always been with people who are very powerful. He has great connections in the political circuit.”

Amit Sana’s professional career after his stint in Indian Idol 1

After making a successful stint in Indian Idol, Amit Sana went on to become a part of another reality show, Jo Jeeta Wahi Superstar, where he got eliminated within the first few weeks itself.
