India's Oldest Billionaire, Keshub Mahindra, Who Worked For More Than 5 Decades, Passes Away At 99

The former chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra, Keshub Mahindra, who is known as the pioneer of the automotive industry, left the mortal planes at the age of 99 years on April 12, 2023.

One such person, Keshub Mahindra, who was the former chairman of the multinational automotive manufacturing corporation, Mahindra and Mahindra, left for the heavenly abode on April 12, 2023. He was counted amongst some of the extraordinary men, who saw the evolution of the Indian auto industry.

Keshub Mahindra left the mortal planes at the age of 99

Keshub Mahindra is known for his visionary leadership for more than 5 decades. His contribution to the fields of business and philanthropy would be treasured in the millions of hearts of his fans and followers. The title holder of India’s oldest billionaire was having a net worth of USD 1.2 billion. Moreover, just a few days ahead of his demise, he also re-entered the Forbes billionaire list of 2023.

The chairman emeritus of Mahindra and Mahindra, Keshub Mahindra had joined his father's utility vehicle manufacturer company in 1947, which later expanded its services into software, hospitality, and real estate sectors. And after working for more than 48 years, he retired in 2012. Following this, the baton was passed on to Keshub's nephew, Anand Mahindra. Post his demise on April 12, 2023, the former managing director of Mahindra and Mahindra, Pawan K Goenka took to his Twitter and penned his condolences for losing one of the pioneers of the business field.

Unknown facts about Keshub Mahindra

Keshub Mahindra was an alumnus of Wharton, University of Pennsylvania. Under his leadership, the multinational automotive manufacturing corporation, Mahindra and Mahindra has achieved tremendous success over the years, which includes acquiring Punjab Tractors and Gujarat Tractors, South Korean company SsangYong Motor, and many others. Keshub also played a significant role in forming partnerships with Mitsubishi, International Harvester, British Telecom and others.

He founded Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) and closely worked with KC Mahindra Education Trust. Keshub was also part of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry in New Delhi from 2004 to 2010. Moreover, the legendary businessman was honoured the Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Legion d'honneur by the French government for his efforts in transforming India’s indigenous auto industry.
