On December 8, 2023, Harshita Gupta took to her official Instagram account and shared the story behind the making of her unique chikankari lehenga. Being her quirky self, the influencer shared that she wanted to get married since her childhood, but the only hindrance was that she did not have a groom. Harshita further said that as she is from Lucknow, she did not want to wear anything except chikankari. Harshita also mentioned that she always wanted to wear a red lehenga. She further said:
“For me, dulhan ka joda is laal. Chikankari is royal, intricate, nawabi, I think everything I wanted to wear on my big day.”
Her lehenga is by the brand, Alekhya Chikankari by the designer, Suhani Gurnani. The designer of Harshi’s lehenga revealed the whole story behind the making of her bridal attire. She mentioned that six female artisans worked for eight months straight to make her lehenga. Harshita's lehenga was made in three stages, blocking or chhapai, washing and dying, and then stiching. She further added:
“It all started with the sketch for Harshi’s lehenga. We had Harshi’s concept in mind, what she was looking forward to. First, the chappai happened, the blocking, and after that, it went for chikankari. It took around seven and a half to 8 months and is done by six female artisans. After that, we did the washing, and then it was dyed into the desired tone of Harshi. She wanted a red lehenga and a chikankari one. Then we went for the zardozi, the embellishment part and then the stitching. So these are the three stages. In this, there’s shadow work, which is called bakhiya, then we have given jaali, we have added ghaas patti and hool k phool as well, and they are beautifully adorned with Japanese cutdana in such a way that chikankari doesn’t lose its essence. Meanwhile, kaamdani enhances it.”
