Take a look at the royal-like home of the Bachchans, which they have lovingly named 'Jalsa', an epitome of celebration!
The Bachchans are one of the greatest film families in Bollywood, which is headed by the first-generation actor couple, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. They are known to be believers in living a life king size, yet each of their members never fails to stun their fans with their deep-rooted humility. Speaking about the family, one must not forget to shed details about their humble abode in Mumbai’s posh Juhu locality, that goes by the name of Jalsa. It is interestingly a tourist attraction of the city, and in fact, fans throng to its gate every Sunday to catch a mandatory glimpse of the man of the decade, Amitabh Bachchan. Moreover, the Bachchans are also owners of two other properties, Janak and Prateeksha. However, their primary residence is restricted to Jalsa itself. Well then, let us take an inside tour of the Bachchan’s home.
To begin with, one cannot take their eyes off the iconic dual wooden gates placed at the very entrance of the Jalsa bungalow. It is the place where Amitabh Bachchan treats his fans with a glimpse of him every weekend. The gate is followed by a marbled portico, where the members of the family are often spotted, surrounded by a small garden with potted plants. Moreover, the heavy wooden gates also turn up to become the perfect background spot for the members of the celeb family, who pose here for their stunning pictures. A few marble steps lead to the main entrance of the house.

Another interesting and lesser-known fact about the Jalsa bungalow of the Bachchans is the fact that the property was gifted to Sr Bachchan by the eminent filmmaker, Ramesh Sippy as a gift for his terrific acting in the film, Satte Pe Satta. Big B’s self-purchased bungalow, Prateeksha is situated just a kilometre away from Jalsa. The price of this bungalow is estimated to be around Rs 100-120 crore.
Upon stepping inside the bungalow, one comes across the stunning living room of the Bachchans, which speaks volumes about opulence, style and great taste. It features a variety of sitting arrangements, including multi-seater couches and antique chairs, that steal the show in no time. The entire vibe of the living room has an old-world charm attached to it, visible through the elegant old-school décor pieces, which include stunning paintings, decorative arches, grand chandeliers, fresh flower vases, and a massive Turkish carpet running throughout the space. The Bachchans love to host their friends in the living room, as well as turn the place into a perfect spot for taking pictures.
Going into the depth of the living room, one can spot the intelligent white-paint on maximum walls that enhance the spacious vibe of the room. Nevertheless, to break the monotony, one of the walls is painted in a bright pop of colour that balances out the neutrality of the space. The vintage bronze and silver artefacts, including candle stands, animal figurines and vases are matched with the gold curtains and glossy marble flooring. However, the Bachchan’s impeccable taste of paintings and art is perfectly enviable and adds a touch of artistic vibe to the residence.
Well, the living room at Jalsa is divided into different segments, each of which narrates a different vibe and tale altogether. But, what catches everyone’s attention is the grand wall of memorabilia at the residence, that features all the family portraits and individual pictures of the members of the family. The wall on which this memorabilia is built is painted in a nude, earthy tone and the area is dim lighted with lampshades to add to the cosy vibe.
Across the grandeur of the living room at Jalsa, the next segment which one comes across is the cosy and fun corner of the Bachchan’s family room. This place is designed a little differently from the royal-like aura of the front living room and is meant for only the members of the family to enjoy their time. The ceiling of this place is designed uniquely in a wooden lattice-patterned with inset warm yellow lights in them. Bright-hued couches, funky printed cushions, comfortable couches and lots of commissioned paintings adorn the space. The family often spends their happy moments here.

Up next, one comes across the study room of the family head, Amitabh Bachchan. The room has been specially built to meet the work needs of an actor, and gives off a rather serious and sombre vibe. The colour palette of the room has been decided as cream and brown, and the furnishings give off a more sleek and modern touch to it. An olive-green leather seating couch, a glossy-finish coffee table, book shelves, paintings and Big B’s iconic study table sum up most of the room’s aesthetics. The room also features a touch of nature through the use of cane made lighting and placement of indoor plants, that strike a perfect balance with the hectic work schedules that are planned in this space.
The most special part of the Bachchan household Jalsa is their large and lush backyard, that provides the perfect embrace of nature to those tired after a day’s work. The space features a variety of plants that include everything from small succulents, bushes and large trees. There is also an option of minimal seating placed in this part, so that the family members can enjoy some relaxing moments in peace with the company of nature. Moreover, the family also utilises this space for clicking candid pictures, playtime and also celebrations, such as Holi and Diwali. The other side of this backyard also features another small porch, where anyone can sit down and enjoy a warm sip of tea overlooking the bounty of nature.
