Selena Gomez shares her thoughts on being the most-followed woman on Instagram. She also shared that she can become emotionally 'reckless' sometimes. Check out the deets.
Popular American singer, Selena Gomez never shies away from speaking what's on her mind. Time and again, she has spoken about her feelings, health issues, and love life and made sure to give back to people who ever dared to troll her. The 31-year-old singer recently spoke against being a 'meme material' after the 2023 VMAs. Several videos available on the internet captured her hilarious reactions throughout the show, that's why she must have felt the need to speak against the netizens' habit of turning everything into a meme.
Once again, at the Universal Music Group and Thrive Global’s Music & Health conference, Selena spoke her mind about her success and opened up about being the most-followed woman on Instagram. For the unversed, the singer enjoys a following of 429 million fans on her official Instagram account.

In the conference, Selena was asked about her thoughts on being the most-followed woman on Instagram. She emphasised that she never cared about the numbers but highly appreciated the social media platform for making a positive impact. She said:
“I’ve never really cared about that stuff. I suppose I’m grateful for the platform, and I would love to continue to use it for what I’m able to do, but numbers are just numbers.”
Having a far-reaching platform, Selena Gomez revealed that she is fully aware of the responsibilities that come with it. She has received messages from numerous fans about how her work has helped them through tough times. She said:
“It can be a little heavy. I feel for people, and I think that’s what kind of keeps me in check, to be honest.”
The Who Says singer also highlighted that she can be somewhat reckless with her emotions whilst talking to young people who have faced certain challenges in their lives. Selena reiterated that being on social media and having such huge popularity can be scary sometimes as well because it is a big responsibility. She said:
“I think I can be a little reckless with my emotions and having conversations with young people, and women who are going through divorces or going through chemo — it’s not just about me, and I’m fully aware of that. I will just always cherish it. It’s a big responsibility, though. It’s a little scary.”

Selena Gomez opened up about her mental health journey and discussed her future plans as an actress in the popular show, Only Murders in the Building. Although Selena is a successful singer, actress, and owner of the cosmetics line, Rare Beauty, still she has no plans to write a book at this point in time. She added:
“Oh no, I don’t know. I’m not wise enough. I don’t think I can do that. But does it mean that one day I wouldn’t be interested? I have fun things I would like to say, but not right now.”
Last year, Apple TV+ released the documentary, My Mind and Me, chronicling Gomez's six-year journey battling autoimmune disease, mental illness, and the pressures of fame. She mentioned that she was very much against releasing the documentary. Selena also mentioned that she won't watch the documentary ever again. This raised many eyebrows, to which she answered that it is because the documentary had information which she kept hidden from the world, hence she felt uncomfortable sharing it with the whole world. She said:
“I was very against it. There was a very long period of time where I just didn’t know if it was a good idea. I knew, eventually, one day, I wanted to maybe just be an actress for a while, and I didn’t know if it would jeopardise things in my life. I don’t know what I’m doing, letting people into my life. And then the moment it was released … I had no choice at that point. And I was relieved. I felt like a huge weight was lifted.”
