Mary Kom has hit a rough patch with her husband, K Onler. Speculations suggest that the duo is headed for a divorce. Read to know more.
Olympic medalist and star boxer, Mary Kom has reportedly decided to separate from her husband, Karung Onkholer, popularly known as K Onler. The couple had been facing some issues in their marriage which led to the decision. While multiple sources have confirmed that the couple has separated, the divorce proceedings are yet to be initiated.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the couple had been living apart since K Onler's successful bid in the 2022 Manipur assembly elections. A source revealed that the couple, known for their enduring love, could not make amends, leading to the separation. They revealed that Mary moved to Faridabad with their children while Onler has been living with his family in Delhi. The source was quoted as saying:
"Mary moved to Faridabad with their (four) children, while Onler has been living in Delhi with some family members. Their differences escalated after the elections. Mary was reportedly unhappy about the financial losses, around Rs. 2-3 crores, incurred during the campaign and (the fact) that he lost."
On the other hand, some of the members of the boxing community have commented on their separation, revealing that the speculations might be true. A boxer anonymously told the publication that while nothing is set in stone, there were speculations that Mary Kom was seeing someone else. The source was quoted as saying:
"The separation rumours about Mary Kom and Onler might not be just rumours. No one knows the reason for sure, though. Everyone whispers about Mary Ma'am being in a relationship with another boxer's husband. Speculation has been fuelled further by her recent Instagram posts featuring him as her business associate.
A source close to Onler also commented on the news and stated that Onler was heartbroken by the occurrence. They revealed that the situation has taken a toll on him. They further added that Onler had put his career on hold in order to take care of his kids and support Mary, but he was unable to see them either. The source also pointed out how Onler has sacrificed so that Mary could build her career.
Hindustan Times also reported that they reached out to the couple, Mary Kom and K Onler, about their alleged separation and divorce. While Onler was unavailable to comment on the speculations. Mary commented on the same and shared that she is not entitled to reply to the publication. She stated:
"I choose not to comment on your message as per my right to privacy and dignity nor I am entitled to reply as asked by you."
The source revealed that it was Mary Kom who had pushed her husband, K Onler, to pursue politics. They shared that Onler was reluctant to enter politics and had warned the boxer about the volatile scene at the time. However, after the defeat, things worsened, and issues became serious between them, resulting in Mary leaving Onler and moving to Faridabad.
