Recently, 'Don' fame, Isha Koppikar opened up about her disappointment at not getting Priyanka Chopra's part in the film. She also discussed working with Shah Rukh Khan, calling him a 'God.'
Isha Kopikkar's iconic dance numbers, such as Khallas and Aaj Ki Raat , are remembered to this day. The pivotal role she played in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, Don went on to become a career-defining moment for her. However, in a recent interaction, the actress opened up about not being entirely happy with the part. Despite certain disappointments, Isha did look back over her time shooting with the legendary actor, Shah Rukh Khan fondly.
Isha Koppikar recently had a candid chat with Galatta India, during which she opened up about her disappointment at not being chosen for Priyanka Chopra's part in Don . Not only did the actress feel the role was 'more powerful,' but she also thought she would have done a better job as she had a 'black belt in Taekwondo.' Isha Koppikar can be quoted as saying:
"I believe Priyanka's role was more powerful than mine. I would have given both my left and right arms for it. I am a black belt in Taekwondo. I've been learning it for 25 years. I can give any heroine a run for their money as far as action is concerned, even if they are half my age I understand I'm good at it, but what's done is done."
As Isha Koppikar reflected on the journey that led to her landing a role in Don , the actress gave credit to Farhan Akhtar's father and stepmother. Stating that it was Javed Akhtar and Shaban Azmi who had recognized her talent, Isha recalled:
"They called me after watching my performance in D, in which I played Chunky Panday's wife and was held hostage by gangsters while he was murdered in front of me, leaving me screaming and howling to save my husband. And I got a call from them. , and my trophy for that was Don."
During the chat with Galatta India, Isha also got candid about her disappointment at Farhan Akhtar not asking her to return for Don 2: The King Is Back . The actress revealed that she had reached out to the filmmakers to inquire about the part but was told that it had already been cast. While initially hurt, their decision to replace her stopped bothering Isha when she saw that the film didn't do as well at the box office as the first part. For the unversed, Lara Dutta was cast in place of Isha, and the character was renamed 'Ayesha Kapoor' for her.
Despite not being entirely satisfied with the part she got in Don , Isha Koppikar was immensely grateful for the opportunity to share screen space with Shah Rukh Khan. Revealing that the actor was 'like God' for her, Isha said:
"SRK is like God for me. Even if I had a small part, I would have just played a tree standing next to Shah Rukh Khan in Don. He has so much energy and you derive that energy from him. He is so humble, He kept saying funny one-liners and kept saying, 'What will I do between these two girls?' dance.' But his dancing is effortless."
