Isha Koppikar feels she would've been a better fit for Priyanka Chopra's role in 'Don 2'. Read to learn more.
Don is a franchise film, that follows a fictional underworld boss. The franchise originates from the 1978 action-thriller, Don, which Amitabh Bachchan played. It was then remade in 2006 as Don: The Chase Begins Again by Farhan Akhtar and starred the King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan.
Don: The Chase Begins Again showcased Isha Koppikar as 'Anita Sinha'. However, when the sequel to the remake was made, the director, Farhan Akhtar, did not approach the actress, which she still has mixed feelings about. In a recent interview with Galatta India, Isha expressed her disappointment and admitted that Farhan's decision at the time exceedingly hurt her.
Isha Koppikar shared that she was hurt when she didn't get called for the sequel, Don 2: The King Is Back, in 2011. She revealed that she had reached out to the makers of the film, but they told her that they had already cast the roles. She further added that it didn't bother her as much because the film, however, did not do well at the box office in comparison to the first part. For the unversed, Isha's role was cast and renamed for Lara Dutta as 'Ayesha Kapoor' at the suggestion of Shah Rukh Khan, who had worked with Lara in Billu in 2009. She was quoted saying:
"I did reach out. I was told they have already cast for it. It’s okay. You win some, you lose some."
During the conversation, she looked back at her role as 'Anita Sinha' and compared it to Priyanka Chopra Jonas's role as 'Roma Bhagat'. She shared that while she was happy to be a part of such a big franchise, she felt that PeeCee's role in the film was better than hers. She revealed that she is a black belt in Taekwondo and could've easily done Priyanka's role in the film if given a chance. She shared:
"I feel Priyanka’s role was more powerful than mine. I would have given my left and right arm for it. I am a black belt in Taekwondo. I have been learning Taekwondo for 25 years now so I know I am fantastic at action and I can give any heroine a run for their money as far as action is concerned, even if they are half my age. I know I am good at it but what’s done is done."
The original film, Don, was made by Chandra Barot. It starred Amitabh Bachchan, Helen, Zeenat Aman, and Pran. The famous writing duo Salim-Javed wrote it. In 2006, Farhan Akhtar decided to remake the movie and cast Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, and Isha Koppikar in his adaptation.
Farhan Akhtar further explored the world of 'Don' with Don 2: The King Is Back in 2011. For this part of the film, Farhan featured Shah Rukh Khan along with Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Lara Dutta, Om Puri, Nawwab Shah, Ally Khan, Sahil Shroff, and Kunal Kapoor. Farhan Akhtar has now decided to revamp the franchise. He is introducing a new era of Don with Ranveer Singh on board to play the antihero alongside Kiara Advani in the threequel.
