Jaideep Ahlawat revealed that he didn't get work despite a lot of appreciation for his role in Alia Bhatt starrer 'Raazi'. While, he received multiple cop roles after sucess of 'Paatal Lok'.
Jaideep Ahlawat gained fame for his versatile roles, immersive acting abilities, and stellar performances that headlined popular films like Maharaj, Raazi, An Action Hero etc. The actor began his acting journey after graduating from FTII, which led him to Mumbai. Gradually, Ahlawat featured in some minor roles before his role in Gangs Of Wasseypur brought him into the spotlight. Recently, the actor reflected on one of the difficult phases of his career when, despite appreciation, he didn't get good role after his performance in Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi.
Jaideep Ahlawat, known for his upfront attitude, sat down for a recent roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter India. During the conversation, he shared that he came across a time when he was keen to do good work in his career and got the opportunity to work in Meghna Gulzar's Raazi. Consequently, the role brought him massive appreciation, but he still didn't get the kind of work opportunities he expected after it. He said:
"After Raazi, I didn't have work. And you are like, 'What went wrong?' Everybody is praising it. Everybody is talking about the role."
Ahlawat continued by mentioning that the scripts he still received were similar to the role he played and typecasted him. He got offers to play the role of an IB officer and RAW officer that he played in the Alia Bhatt starrer. But he didn't want to play those roles since he had recently done it.
In the same conversation, Jaideep Ahlawat shared that his challenges didn't end because he faced a similar situation after playing the lead role in a successful web series like Paatal Lok. He got hundreds of offers to play a cop similar to his role in the series. The situation became serious when he was offered roles that blended the successful roles he had already played. He explained:
"Heights were like (when people told me) 'sir, it's a mixture of Paatal Lok and Mirzapur (Another hit Amazon Prime Video show).' (I was like) 'What? Yeh kya hai? (What is this?)' But then everybody wants that thing."
Ahlawat highlighted that his biggest takeaway from such situations was that he had to work on himself. He had to improve his skills and focus on the right things. The actor decided not to be too desperate about things and think from a more neutral perspective rather than keeping himself in a flash bubble.
Jaideep Ahlawat will be next seen in Amazon Prime's Paatal Lok season 2.
