Janhvi Kapoor Talks About Her Life After Mom, Sridevi's Death, Says 'I Felt A Weird Sense Of Relief'

In a recent interview, Janhvi Kapoor opened up about the horrible feeling of losing her mother, late Sridevi, and added that she felt a weird sense of relief.

Bollywood actress, Janhvi Kapoor is one of the most popular actresses of her generation. She is the elder daughter of ace filmmaker, Boney Kapoor, and legendary actress, late Sridevi. Janhvi lost her mother before making her debut in the film, Dhadak, and her life changed forever. For the unversed, Sridevi passed away after drowning in a bathtub on February 24, 2018, in Dubai.

Janhvi Kapoor reveals she felt a weird sense of relief after her mother, Sridevi's death

In a recent interview with Barkha Dutt, Janhvi Kapoor talked about how difficult it was for her to deal with the loss of her mother and legendary actress, Sridevi. However, she mentioned that she felt a weird sense of relief after her mother's death, as she believed that after all the privileges she deserved something bad. Talking about the same, she said:

"When I lost mom, of course, there was this huge tragedy, there was a hole in my heart. But there was this horrible feeling of ‘something bad has happened’ to justify all the great things in my life and all the privileges and the things that I got easily which I heard my entire life. I thought ‘Ok now something bad has happened. I deserve this. I deserve this horrible thing that has happened to me. It was a weird sense of relief."

Janhvi Kapoor reveals she spent most of her time at work after Sridevi's death

Losing her mother, Sridevi, was one of the most difficult phases in Janhvi Kapoor's life, and she struggled to overcome it. In the same interview, Janhvi revealed that she started spending most of her time at work after her mother's death and added that everything else had become blurry. In her words:

“I don’t think I remember anything. That entire month was a blur for me and a long time after that was also a blur.”

Talking about how she dived into work, Janhvi revealed how she realised that she was too damaged during the COVID-19 lockdown. She also revealed that all these years, she sought approval and validation from her mother, late Sridevi, but after her death, she gave that responsibility to the audience. She said:

“During COVID I was forced to spend a minute with myself, and thoughts and I realised actually how damaged I was. Another aspect of it that I reflected on, that I think really messed me up was the validation and approval that I sought from my mother. I gave the audience that responsibility."

However, after relying on the audience for love and support post-Sridevi's demise, Janhvi Kapoor realised that nobody was going to love her like her mother. Thus, when she made her debut, she failed to etch a place in the audience's hearts, which made her feel stupid. Reflecting on the same, Janhvi stated that she feels she could have done a better job and added:

“Not everyone in the world is going to love you like your mother. So, when my first film came out I was like ‘I will get the audience’s love through mom, and it will be her.' That was stupid of me, because a, it was my first film, and b, with the baggage of privileges with me, not everyone is out to love you. And, I could have done a better job also."

On the work front, Janhvi Kapoor will be next seen in the films, Bawaal and Mr And Mrs Mahi this year.
