Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan are best of friends. But the latter refused to be a witness at Javed and Honey Irani's wedding.
Javed Akhtar is one of the most renowned personalities in the Indian music industry. In his personal life, he has been married twice. Earlier, he was married to Honey Irani, with whom he has two kids, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. They were married for 11 years before parting ways in 1985. In 1984, Javed tied the knot for the second time with veteran actress, Shabana Azmi.
Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi are an inspiration to all couples, as they share mutual respect and affection for each other. Shabana also shares a close bond with Javed’s children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. However, Shabana doesn't have a cordial bond with Honey Irani, and the latter once claimed that they are not sahelis. Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar’s documentary, Angry Young Men, has been released on Prime Video, and in an interesting revelation, Salim shared that he had initially refused to be a witness at Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani’s wedding.

Recalling an interesting anecdote from his life, Salim Khan shared that Honey Irani was his good friend, and Javed had suggested her name during the casting of Seeta Aur Geeta. Soon, Javed and Honey got serious about their relationship, and the latter's mother advised them to get married. Salim revealed:
“Honey was a very good friend of mine. Javed suggested her name during the casting of Seeta Aur Geeta. They soon became excited about their relationship. Honey Irani’s mother told Javed, ‘I don’t like you coming here every day, better marry her.’”
Javed Akhtar revealed that he had always thought of Salim Khan and his wife, Salma Khan, as his parents and listened to them. And when it came to his wedding, he didn't want anyone else to be the witness at his wedding except the former duo. Talking about the same, Javed added:
“Salim saab said, ‘You need two witnesses to get married.’ I said you are there. Obviously, I’d choose no one else. He said, ‘Don’t make a witness.’ I asked why. He said, ‘All the marriages I’ve been a witness to have fallen apart.’ I am not a superstitious person at all. I said I don’t believe in such things. You will be my witness. But then he proved to be right.”

Earlier. in an interview with Mojo Story, Javed Akhtar opened up about his first wife, Honey Irani, and shared some lesser-known anecdotes about their relationship. According to Muslim personal law, he was only responsible for giving alimony to Honey for four months, but he considered his ex-wife as his responsibility. Speaking along the same lines, Javed mentioned that he is always available for Honey's help, whether or not she asks for it. He further recalled that he walked out of the house with some books and some clothes after they parted ways. The lyricist also revealed that the understanding between him and Honey makes them the best of friends.
