Jaya Bachchan Picked Up 3 Sarees From An Odia Master Weaver Of Sonepur For Then-Bride Aishwarya Rai?

Jaya Bachchan reportedly bought three beautiful sarees from an Odia master weaver in Sonepur for the then-bride, Aishwarya Rai. One of these sarees took three months to prepare.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan got married to the love of her life, Abhishek Bachchan, in 2007. And after a few years of their marital bliss, the duo welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya, into their lives. For the unversed, the couple's love story began on the sets of their movie, Umrao Jaan, and it was during the premiere of their other film, Guru when the actor proposed to the actress. Ahead of their wedding, Abhishek and Aishwarya had a traditional roka ceremony followed by a low-key yet dreamy wedding. For her wedding, Aishwarya wore a beautiful Kanjiveram saree from Neeta Lulla.

Jaya Bachchan had picked up three sarees from an Odia master weaver for then-bride, Aishwarya Rai

We recently learned that Aishwarya's saas, Jaya Bachchan, reportedly picked up three sarees from an Odia weaver for the then-bride, Aishwarya. As per an old report by the Telegraph, the veteran actress, Jaya met the famous master weaver, Padmashri Chaturbhuj Meher, at the latter's exhibition and picked up a couple of sarees from there as she liked his work. The designer had said:

"Jaya Bachchan had come to inaugurate the show and liked my work. She then picked up a couple of sarees."

In the same report, it was mentioned that the master weaver, Padmashri Chaturbhuj Meher, had sent three beautiful sarees to Jalsa ahead of Abhishek's wedding so that the then-bride, Aishwarya, could wear them. The three sarees were weaved at Orissa's Sonepur, which is famous for 'Pata' sarees.

Talking about what happened next, the master weaver, Padmashri Chaturbhuj Meher revealed that when he had sent out these sarees to Jalsa, Jaya was not there, and after coming to Mumbai, she told him that she had picked Radhakunj, Mayurkunj and double ikkat sarees for her daughter-in-law and would like her to wear them. The designer said:

"She was not there in Mumbai when I sent pictures of the saris. When she returned to Mumbai she told me that she liked the Radhakunj, Mayurkunj and double ikkat saris and would like her daughter-in-law to wear these sarees."

A few years later, another weaver from Orissa, Prafulla Meher, told Odisha Bytes that the weaver maestro, Padmashri Chaturbhuj Meher, created a crafted tissue saree for Aishwarya. The actress had reportedly worn a maroon-hued Radhakunj saree during one of her wedding ceremonies, which took Chaturbhuj three months to prepare. For those who don't know, the tie-dye work of the Sonepur weavers is a traditional craft wherein the weavers create several patterns with cotton, silk, and several other materials over the fabrics.

Aishwarya Rai's wedding saree was pure Kanjiveram

There had been a lot of gossip about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's wedding saree. For the unversed, Aishwarya had donned a Kanjiveram saree, which reportedly had a price tag of Rs. 75 lakh. It was Neeta Lulla who was behind the masterclass design of Aishwarya's wedding saree. However, in a recent interview, Neeta shared that Aishwarya's wedding saree didn't cost crores or lakhs, but it was a regular Kanjiveram saree with a regular Kanjiveram blouse.
