Jayam Ravi, famous for his movie, Ponniyin Selvan, recently announced his divorce from his wife, Aarti. However, the latter does not agree with this and has made some shocking claims, stating that the decision was not mutual. On September 11, 2024, Aarti issued an official statement in which she addressed her opinions on the divorce.
Days after Jayam Ravi announced his separation from wife, Aarti, the latter was seen expressing her thoughts on the matter by releasing an official statement on her Instagram handle. She claimed that the decision to get a divorce was not mutual and that it happened without her consent. She said that she never agreed to the separation, hinting that Jayam Ravi's announcement was ‘one-sided’.
Adding in her official statement, Aarti expressed her grief over the matter and said that she tried to contact her husband many times, but all her efforts failed. She wrote:
“For some time, I have sought several opportunities to speak directly with my husband, hoping to have an open dialogue in a manner that honours the commitment we made to one another and to our family. Sadly, that opportunity was not afforded to me, leaving both my children and me completely blindsided by this announcement.”
In the long, heartbreaking statement that Aarti issued, she also mentioned how deeply she has been hurt by this sole decision, which also affected the well-being of her children. According to Aarti, she has been subjected to ‘false public narrative’ and ‘character attacks’, which is why she chose to clear the air and put forward her side to the public.
Aarti added more to her statement. She said that she always prioritizes her children and she couldn’t stand the effect the divorce news had on them. Hence, she decided to address the allegations so that the strength and dignity of her family remains. To quote her:
“As a mother, my first priority and always will be the well-being of my children. I cannot stand by while this narrative effects them, and I will not allow those unfounded allegations to go unaddressed. My focus remains on the well-being of our children and helping them navigate this difficult time with the strength and integrity they deserve. I trust that in time, the full context of a situation will be understood.”

Jayam Ravi announced his divorce on September 9, 2024, on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. After 15 years of marriage, Jayam cited the reason for divorce as ‘personal’. He also mentioned that he decided on the separation after much thought and discussions. He added that the decision is in the best interests of everyone involved. However, now, after 2 days, his wife also issued the statement and claimed the opposite.
