'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' is the longest-running sit-com. However, it is also one of the most controversial shows, with its former cast opening up about their traumatic experiences.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been a prominent part of every early 2000s kid. From living their childhood along with the famous 'Tapu Sena' to the change in cast and the former cast coming out with their traumatic experience, the viewers have felt the pain of their favourite show turning dark. Recently, Jheel Mehta, aka 'Sonu', came forward with her traumatic memory of the show.
Jheel Mehta became a household name after she appeared on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah as 'Sonu', the daughter of 'Aatmaram Tukaram Bhide' and 'Madhvi Bhide'. Recently, the former actress came forward and shared a deeply personal experience from her time on the show. Jheel appeared on Siddhesh Lokare's podcast and revealed that she had once questioned her decision to be a part of the popular series. She was quoted saying:
"Main soch rahi thi main ye serial kyu kar rahi hu."
During the conversation, Jheel, who was a part of the show from 2008 to 2012, talked about the episode that, in particular, left a lasting impact on her. She revealed the episode in which 'Tapu' got married left her traumatized. She added that it was when she really questioned her decision to be in the show. Jheel was quoted saying:
"Wo jo Tapu ki shaadi ka episode tha wo mere liye kaafi traumatizing tha. Main soch rahi thi main ye serial kyu kar rahi hu. Child marriage ho raha hai isme. I am not sure what I was thinking about. When I saw the show, I realised it was a dream sequence. I was questioning my life decisions. It was weird humorous, and crazy in my head."
Jheel Mehta left Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah after being a part of the show for four years, citing that she wanted to focus on her academics as the reason. She was replaced by Nidhi Bhanushali, who portrayed the role of 'Sonu Bhide' in 2012. However, she left the show in 2019 and was replaced by Palak Sindhwani, who portrayed the character from 2019 to 2024. Currently, Khushi Mali is playing 'Sonu Bhide' in the ongoing episodes of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
Apart from Jheel Mehta, several other actors have left the show. Disha Vakani, who played the role of 'Daya', took a maternity break in 2018 and hasn't returned or been replaced since. Bhavya Gandhi, who portrayed the role of 'Tapu', left the show in 2017 and was replaced by Raj Anadkat. Gurucharan Singh, who was seen in the role of 'Sodi' left the show in 2020 and was replaced by Balwinder Singh Suri.
Shailesh Lodha played the title character of 'Taarak Mehta'. He was replaced by Sachin Shroff in 2022, Neha Mehta was replaced by Sunayana Fozdar as 'Anjali' after she left the show in 2020, soon after Nitish Bhaluni in the role of 'Tapu' replaced Raj Anadkat, Monaz Mevawalla took the place of Jennifer Mistry as 'Roshan' in the show. Dharmit Shah replaced 'Goli', who Kush Shah played.
