In a podcast with BeerBiceps, Johnny Lever revealed insights into his dark days in Dharavi, where he used to witness murders daily and wanted to commit suicide at 13 due to his father's alcoholism.
Johnny Lever needs no introduction, the actor and comedian won everyone’s heart with his comic timing and impeccable acting. Johnny Lever was a big name in the industry back in the 90s and 2000s when everyone would cast him in their film for his excellent dialogue delivery and screen presence. To date, the actor is appreciated for his comic roles and is an inspiration to many. Johnny Lever recently appeared on BeerBicep’s podcast, where he revealed many rare insights into his life.
Johnny Lever is a native Mumbaikar and grew up in the lanes of the popular slum, Dharavi. Talking about his childhood experiences, Johnny revealed that he used to witness murders daily in the area. Homicides were a common practice in the area, and dead bodies were dumped on the roadside in the open. Johnny added that the residents of the slum were used to seeing dead bodies, and they never bat an eye after witnessing such cruelty.

In the same podcast, Johnny Lever revealed that his father was an alcoholic and even used to force his kids to consume alcohol. The comedian was so fed up with his father that he, at the age of 13, went to the railway track to end his life, but, at the track, the faces of his three younger sisters popped into his mind, and he backed out. Johnny was the sole provider of his family and used to look after his sisters, so he had to be there by their side to protect them. He added:
“13 saal ki umar mein main toh rail ki patri par jaan dene gaya tha. Main fed up ho gaya tha mere baap se. Main patri pe gaya, gaadi aa rahi saamne se, achanak meri teen behne mere saamne dikhai di ‘hamara kya hoga’ aur ye gaadi gayi.”
The podcast host, Ranveer Allahbadia, asked Johnny Lever to share his observations on Shah Rukh Khan as he has seen the megastar build his career in front of him. Johnny Lever revealed that he worked with SRK in Baazigar and Karan Arjun and during that time, he was a bigger star than SRK, and people used to recognise him more, but SRK had the hunger in him to work on his weaknesses, which helped him to reach the stardom he is at now.

Johnny Lever added that SRK was weak at fight sequences and in dance, but he used to practice it over and over to attain perfection. SRK used to practice even after his pack-up. He also added that everyone used to make fun of SRK for working on the same thing over and over again, but the superstar never gave up and was extremely serious about his work.
