Apart from this, he is also the co-owner of the famous IPL (Indian Premier League) team, Kolkata Knight Riders, along with Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan. The much-in-love couple lives in this luxurious house in Malabar Hills, which is a residential neighbourhood in South Mumbai. It is a multi-storied property and offers a stunning view of the Arabian Sea. From a jaw-dropping terrace for the perfect evening get-together, a view of the Mumbai skyline to features artworks and traditional interiors, and much more.
However, not everyone is aware of the fact that Jay Mehta, who has an estimated net worth of Rs. 254 crores, also owns a luxurious home in Gujarat’s Porbandar. Yes! You read it right. If you thought Jay’s Malabar Hills property was a work of art, you’d definitely fall short of words after getting inside his Porbander house. So without further ado, let’s get started!
It was Jay Mehta’s grandfather, Mahendra Mehta, who built this family home, Hill Bungalow, back in 1956. When his grandson, Jay’s turn, came to take care of his family’s ancestral home, he left no stone unturned in transforming it into a work of art. The businessman joined hands with established architect, Channa Daswatte to redesign his home, which is his family’s legacy.
As soon as we enter Jay Mehta’s Gujarat home, the first that lightens up our mood and eyes is the breathtaking layering silk carpets on the floor of his house. The two bedrooms open to a verdant green lawn. Apart from the silk carpets, it is the vintage metal lion and altar candles that enhance the room’s overall beauty.
The walls and furniture blend perfectly with the artefacts, which speaks volumes about interior consultant, James Moore, who is the man behind this beauty.
Moving on to the sitting room of Jay Mehta’s house, it featured the businessman’s close friend, Tanya Goel’s abstract painting, which simply beautified the entire space. From black and white ink drawings of famous artist, Prabakhar Kolte to ceramic lamp and a series of antique that speaks volumes about Jay Mehta’s love for artistic things. Also, the sitting room's centre table is crowded with many beautiful artefacts and antiques.
Famous businessman, Jay Mehta also went for Burma teak furniture for his living room, as it is one of the most expensive woods in the world and considered the best raw material for making furniture. The earthy hues of the living space create a vibe that creates a sense of calmness in the entire room. Instead of going for colours, Jay Mehta filled one side of the wall with monochrome pictures of his friends and family. The giant mirror presents a mere view of the courtyard, which is in limestone hue, along with a manicured frangipani tree.

The dining room of Jay Mehta’s home deserves extra brownie points as it is clearly the heart of the entire property. The dining room's ceiling has a mural of wispy clouds which look cheerful in the day, but at night it looks like a living landscape in the pale lights of the false ceiling. The dining room featured a breathtaking dining table, which is once again made up of Burma teak.
We can also see 11 reproduction chairs of the 18th century around the table. Another reason the dining area is special is that it was once Jay’s father’s room. It is the reason why he didn’t change the marble flooring, which is a part of the house’s original design and a memory of his father.
The bedroom boasts a double antique Calcutta poster bed, which looks royal and luxurious. Another thing that caught our eyes was the mesmerising paintings on the wall, which Buddhadev Mukherjee inked.
Moving onto the guest room, it also featured a Calcutta four-poster bed from the famous Mahendra Doshi. On the bed’s right side, a beautiful side table by Daswatte can be spotted. However, what truly steal the limelight are the 20th-century Ajanta Paintings.

The property’s third floor is Jay Mehta’s favourite spot, as it is the epitome of a fun-filled space. From a limestone courtyard, frangipani tree, family photographs, art pieces, and glass doors to overlook the swimming pool to a timber deck, the family room is perfect for fun-filled gatherings.
Another fascinating corner of Jay Mehta’s house is the open court area which divides the house and the sky. On the same floor, there are two bedrooms and suites for guests. The open court area is covered with Bali sandstone mandalas and a fountain. Not only this, Ajit Mookerjee’s tantra art on the wall also enhances the overall look of the court area.
With all the antiques, artefacts, expensive furniture, rare paintings, and much more, there’s nothing that can fill the void of not having a sprawling lawn when we talk about wealthy people like Jay Mehta. For the unversed, Jay is a nature lover and is one of the reasons why he left no stone unturned in transforming the lawn into a better and much greener way.
